Our daughter lived in a duplex with her boyfriend, dog and guinea pig. Just before Thanksgiving, there was a fire in the other unit, fortunately the fire was contained and her part only had smoke damage. Since she was forced to move that day, she was unable to care for her cavy and we ended up adding it to our zoo.
When we got it, it looked like it had a golf ball stuck up its butt so I went online looking for an answer. It turns out the poor critter was impacted and had such a large ball of feces that it had difficulty passing anything. We massaged its butt with mineral oil and slowly forced the mass out. Generally, cavy dropping have little odor unless you practically stuff them into your nose, but this stuf... YOW!
Well we have changed its diet and we give it a lot of fresh vegetables and Timothy Hay for roughage. Unfortunately, the poor critter has to be emptied every few days despite its improved diet. Has anyone had any similar experience with a guinea pig? Does anyone know of a way return the critter to normal function? The trouble ain't that there's too many fools, but that the lightning ain't distributed right. ~Mark Twain~ It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument. ~William G.
