Why are so many people so simple!?! You can all start your own threads where you can sound off to your hearts content without disturbing others. Or is that your simple point... disturbing others?
I await the day that MyBasicISP management allows thread starters to moderate the posts! People like that read books from Richard Dawkins and Ze'ev Herzog and think that they actually know what their talking about. They put their faith in the wrong person. Simpleton reminds me of people I know. They figure that since God didn't stop some traumatic event, He must not exist.Simpleton,Was it connected to your fire fighting pimp days?.

Hopefully this thread can somehow be restored. I'll check in another day to see if the hecklers have settled down. Like I said, this was a great topic for discussion. Very sad to see it ruined.

I too, hope this thread can be restored.

This seems to make perfect sense to me. I saw it thorough an e-mail and thought I would share it.

Subject: An idea whose time has come
For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they didn't pay into Social Security, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered...in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop. This is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come.
Have each person contact a minimum of Twenty people on their Address list, in turn ask each of those to do likewise.. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one proposal that really should be passed around. Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States ". ~ Insults Should Be Written In Sand ~ Compliments Should Be Carved In Stone ~

I believe senators and congressmen should have term limits and no pensions. Those jobs where never meant to be careers. Greg,
It's just me Sarge, I hope you see this post. Will you please consider giving this place another chance. I know the forum has been volatile lately but hopefully things have settled and will be better. I really enjoyed talking with you and like I said, perhaps another try might be in order. Those of us who were serious about this discussion would very much like to see you return and participate. Please e-mail me or PM me if you like with your thoughts.
There ARE some good folks here Greg and we shouldn't allow a couple of bad apples to ruin our forum. I say lets try again and just report the forum trolls for everybody's sake. I have no problem with it anymore. I just hate to see good people leaving because of a couple of trouble makers.

I believe senators and congressmen should have term limits and no pensions. Those jobs where never meant to be careers. I agree Terry, replacing the current rules with term limits also invites new ideas. As for a pension after just one term, NO WAY!!! These positions are meant to be in part, public service jobs.

Sarge There was something in the news recently about how much more government jobs payed when compared to private jobs. I used to hear that government jobs payed less, but job security made up for that. Now they have the best of both. Thanks Wyatt and your scripture is very applicable imo.
Stop by the Coffee Shop anytime and get to know the crew. Perhaps tell us about yourself. We really DO have some great folks here that I think you would enjoy getting to know.

I believe your correct Terry and while active Military back in the day had poor pay, today that pay has improved considerably as it should. Those brave men and women earn and deserve every nickel they get. Also I wanted to say, if I'm not mistaken most government positions don't pay into SSAN just like active duty service men and women. That's a huge benefit for them.
I'm not sure if you had the opportunity to meet "lmjr" (username) and Mark is his real name but anyhow, he was the "go to guy" for this kind of thread. He was very intelligent about stats and incredibly good at seeing thorough the fog of politics. He is definitely missed here on the politics forum. Oh yeah, he was also very good at finding the answers to the hard questions for sure.
Thanks again, Sarge~ Insults Should Be Written In Sand ~ Compliments Should Be Carved In Stone ~

"lmjr"? No I didn't meet him. I wish I could. "If a man loses pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music in which he hears, however measured, or far away.” Henry David Thoreau
