Billy waited til' he finished high school He went to Hollywood, got a tattoo He met a girl out there with a tattoo too The future was wide open They moved into a place they both could afford He found a night club he could work at the door She had a guitar and she taught him some chords The sky was the limit Into the great wide open Under them skies of blue Out in the great wide open A rebel without a clue The papers said Bill always played from the heart He got an agent and a roadie named Bart They made a record and it went in the chart The sky was the limit His leather jacket had chains that would jingle They both met movie stars, partied and mingled Their A&R man said "I don't hear a single" The future was wide open Into the great wide open Under them skies of blue Out in the great wide open A rebel without a clue Tom Petty (Well sorta!) I'm travelin' down the road and I'm flirtin' with disaster I've got the pedal to the floor and my life is running faster I'm outta money outta hope it looks like self destruction Well how much more can we take with all of this corruption We're flirtin' with disaster, ya'll know what I mean And the way we run our lives it makes no sense to me I don't know about yourself or what you wanna to be, yeah When we gamble with our time we choose our destiny I'm travelin' down that lonesome road. Feel like I'm draggin a heavy load. Yet I've tried to turn my head away, Feel about the same most every day You know what I'm talkin about man Speeding down the fast lane and honey we're playin' from town to town The boys and I been burnin' it up and honey can't seem to slow it down I got the pedal to the floor our lives are runnin' faster, We got our sights set straight ahead but I ain't sure what we're after We're flirtin' with disaster ya'll damn sure know what I mean. You know the way we run our lives it makes no sense to me I don't know about yourself or what you plan to be, yeah When we gamble with our time we choose our destiny Yeah! We're travelin' down that lonesome road. Feel like I'm dragging a heavy load. Though I try to turn my head away, I'm flirtin' with disaster every day. And you are too baby, Ha ha ha ha ha It ain't for everybody, Oh come on man Guitar solo We're flirtin' with disaster man ya'll know what I mean You know the way we run our lives it makes no sense to me I don't know about yourself or what you plan to be When we gamble with our time we choose our destiny Yeah! We're travelin' down this lonesome road. Feel like I'm dragging a heavy load. Though I try to turn my head away, Bop mm bop bop yeah We're flirtin' with disaster every day. I don't smoke marihuana, I don't take LSD 'Cos I'm a country boy from Nashville, with my boots up to my knees I like to sit around and be lazy, I like to drink a lot of beer 'Cos I'm a country boy from Nashville, with my hair cut to my ears I'd like to cut the braids of a long-haired hippy, and tie them up to a tree 'Cos I'm a country boy from Nashville, that's Nashville, Tennessee Well I'm a country boy from Nashville, Tennessee, don't mess with me Tesla "Don't ask me silly questions I won't play silly games I'm just a simple choo choo train And I'll always be the same.

Actually it's kinda funny. I posted the lyrics to "This Old Man" because me and my coworkers were discussing it this morning. It seems we have all noticed that one of the quirks that our boss has is a habit of tunelessly whistling that song. I'm not talking about lately.... I'm talking about since 1997! I remember standing on the corner at midnight Trying to get my courage up There was this long lovely dancer in a little club downtown I loved to watch her do her stuff Through the long lonely nights she filled my sleep Her body softly swaying to that smoky beat Down on mainstreet In the pool halls, the hustlers and the losers I used to watch 'em through the glass Well i'd stand outside at closing time Just to watch her walk on past Unlike all the other ladies, she looked so young and sweet As she made her way alone down that empty street Down on mainstreet And sometimes even now, when i'm feeling lonely and beat I drift back in time and i find my feet Down on mainstreet Down on mainstreet Bob Seger "Don't ask me silly questions I won't play silly games I'm just a simple choo choo train And I'll always be the same.

"Powderfinger" Look out, Mama, there's a white boat comin' up the river With a big red beacon, and a flag, and a man on the rail I think you'd better call John, 'Cause it don't look like they're here to deliver the mail And it's less than a mile away I hope they didn't come to stay It's got numbers on the side and a gun And it's makin' big waves. Daddy's gone, my brother's out hunting in the mountains Big John's been drinking since the river took Emmy-Lou So the powers that be left me here to do the thinkin' And I just turned twenty-two I was wonderin' what to do And the closer they got, The more those feelings grew. Daddy's rifle in my hand felt reassurin' He told me, Red means run, son, numbers add up to nothin' But when the first shot hit the docks I saw it comin' Raised my rifle to my eye Never stopped to wonder why. Then I saw black, And my face splashed in the sky. Shelter me from the powder and the finger Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger Think of me as one you'd never figured Would fade away so young With so much left undone Remember me to my love, I know I'll miss her. Verbal Abuse lyrics~Undead
(Steele) I come in, you throw me out You leave me standing without a doubt For what you're telling me ain't no use 'Cause all you're giving me is verbal abuse What I'm hearing ain't no surprise I'm getting sick of hearing all your lies You don't listen, you don't see Don't throw your verbal abuse at me

I was once, I was strolling one very hot, summer's day When I thought I'd lay myself down to rest In a big field of tall grass. I lay there in the sun And felt it caressing my face As I fell asleep And dreamed. I dreamed I was in a Hollywood movie And that I was the star of the movie. This really blew my mind, The fact that me, An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome, Should be the star of a Hollywood movie. Hmm, but there I was. I was taken to a place, The hall of the mountain king. I stood high upon a mountain top, Naked to the world, In front of every kind of girl. There was long ones, tall ones, short ones, brown ones, Black ones, round ones, big ones, crazy ones. Out of the middle Came a lady. She whispered in my ear Something crazy. She said, "Spill the wine, take that pearl. Spill the wine, take that pearl. Spill the wine, take that pearl. Spill the wine, take that pearl." I could feel hot flames of fire roaring at my back As she disappeared, But soon she returned. In her hand was a bottle of wine, In the other, a glass. She poured some of the wine from the bottle into the glass And raised it to her lips And, just before she drank it, She said, "Take the wine, take that girl. Spill the wine, take that pearl. Spill the wine, take that pearl. Spill the wine, take that pearl." Take that pearl, yeah. It's on girl, all you gotta do is spill that wine, spill that wine. Let me feel, let me feel fine, yeah, yeah. Spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, take that pearl. "Field Of Opportunity" I've been wrong before And I'll be there again I don't have any answers my friend Just this pile of old questions My memory left me here In the field of opportunity It's plowin' time again. I'm going' back to my house But I'm not goin' now It's too early to be leaving here, somehow Let me bore you with this story "How my lover let me down" While I borrow seeds of sadness From the ground. In the field of opportunity It's plowin' time again. There ain't no way of telling Where these seeds will rise or when I'll just wait around 'til springtime And then, I'll find a friend In the field of opportunity It's plowin' time again. When I'm all done cultivatin' I'll be rockin' on the porch Tryin' to picture you and where you are And there'll be no hesitatin' When Cupid lights the torch With those headlights comin' down the hill Between the stars. In the field of opportunity It's plowin' time again. There ain't no way of telling Where these seeds will rise or when I'll just wait around 'til springtime And then, I'll find a friend In the field of opportunity It's plowin' time again. This letter that I write to you, Dad, Well I will not sign my name. Though I did not want to tell you, I felt I had to anyway. Well, it rained for weeks and it flooded the creek, and I lost the whole crop of grain And the man at the bank wouldn't loan me the money to plant that field again, so Chorus: Today, Dad, I sold the old John Deere. The man who bought it's gonna fix it up and put it in a museum. Well I guess that's where this whole thing's gone. A picture for people to pay to look upon. That's how they lived in the old days, son. Sheep's in the meadow, can't find the cows, and little boy blue's got a job in town. Yesterday old McAllister came by and said that he's had enough. Between the government and the subsidies, well he just couldn't keep up. And if welfare checks was farming, well he'd simply just rather not. And I didn't say nothing, Dad, as I watched him drive off,but Chorus Mary says it'll be okay, if nothing else goes wrong. And she got a job at the five and dime, and the hours aint too long. I hope this letter finds you well. I'm sorry how it just goes on. But I had to tell somebody, Dad, and you were the only one. And today, Dad, I sold the old John Deere. I guess you had your reasons For the way you used to be Don’t why I couldn’t please you You just never had much faith in me There’s fine dust in the tire ruts now Along the old feed road They’re workin’ on a six year drought Just so you know I can pull my weight I can hold my own I can sling that blade all summer long ‘Til the thistles fall And the pasture’s clear And the work’s all done for another year I can hold my own The world was like a distant storm I could feel it on the breeze But it made so little difference here Just a whisper in the trees Mending fence for room and board Was mostly all I’d done For I was still a prisoner here In 1961 The sucker rod on the windmill creaks Now and then you hear a car There’s thunderheads across the southern sky But they won’t get this far There’s red ants by the graveyard gate They’re nearly all that moves And they carry on despite this heat I bet you’d tell me what that proves There’s fine dust in the tire ruts now The creeks no longer run But I am just a visitor here The drought won’t hurt me none James McMurtry "Don't ask me silly questions I won't play silly games I'm just a simple choo choo train And I'll always be the same.
