I have received a couple of e-mails from the ACLU asking, specifically, for donations to help fight Arizona for the immigration policy of the new law. ASctually, I support Arizona's law and believe it should be the law of the land. If a police officer stops someone, asking for proper legal ID is fine unless of course you happen to be hispanic... this does not constitute racial profiling in my opinion. Since I do not support the ACLU position, this is a portion of the letter I have sent them...

Racial profiling?!

Since when does inability to speak English well, if at all, constitute a race? Illegal immigrants come from all over the world. They are white and black and all shades in between, they may or may not speak English. Perhaps they speak French... would it be considered "racial profiling" to ask to see a persons passport if they can only speak French?

Maybe they require assistance, maybe they overstayed a visa, anyone speaking any language could be a terrorist, maybe a FBI top 10 criminal could be randomly stopped... it has happened. A police officer stopping a vehicle or answering a call for assistance should ask for identification be it a passport, a driver's licence or other form of legal ID if there is even the slightest doubt about a person. It is just common sense.

As of today, regardless of what may be "politically correct," you know as well as I do that the majority of illegal immigrants speak some form of Spanish. So, of course, most of the people here illegally can only speak Spanish. The last time I checked, speaking any given language does not constitute "race." In any case, such a person will have been in this nation a very short time and/or very well may be here illegally. I would suspect someone that can only speak Russian or Chinese or Arabic and would find it reasonable to ask such people for proper ID. And again... speaking these languages is no indication as to a persons race.

While I have not traveled outside of this nation save a trip to the Bahamas, I feel pretty certain that most other nations ask for proper identification if some person, obviously not a national citizen, has reason to be contacted by a law enforcement person of some sort. Why should law enforcement personnel of any sort in this nation not do the same?

Historically, local police quite often arrest many people that have broken a Federal law. How is this any different than having police at any level enforce a Federal law on immigration? The Arizona law does not authorize law enforcement to randomly stop anyone of any race or national origin and ask for "their papers." It is only if a person has been detained for some other incident that they would be required to produce proper identification. If that name shown by the ID has outstanding warrants, you would consider it reasonable for that person to be detained for any outstanding warrants. Why is it that, if the same person has broken a Federal law on immigration, it is no longer the interest of police?
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

The Federal U.S. Government led by the Obama White House has filed a lawsuit against the state of Arizona. Part of the suit says that states do not have jurisdiction in enforcing legal or illegal immigration laws. The state of Arizona says they WILL proceed with the new laws they have enacted since the federal government has failed to protect its citizens. The White House claims these new laws are fostering "racial profiling" and that states have no right to enforce them. Over 250,000 illegal immigrants have crossed the border into Arizona in the last 30 months. Many of them are convicted felons committing serious crimes like drug distribution, kidnapping, rape and murder.

IMO, our Federal Government has failed BIGTIME from protecting its citizens from illegals whether it be our borders or smuggled via illegal shipping. Several other states are considering new laws on illegal immigration and are using Arizona's laws as a model.

I support the State of Arizona and applaud them for taking steps in protecting its borders and citizens, something the Federal Government has failed to do for too long. btw, 80% of Arizona's residents support the new laws. I will find a source to confirm what I have stated here and post it as soon as I get time.

ABSOLUTELY!

I'm not sure about 80%, but in EVERY poll I have seen on the subject, the majority of people of all states, coast to coast support the state of Arizona... EVERY poll!
