I was inspired by this scripture (see below)
which was posted by Br Bruce today on the Dancing with God topic.
I thought it would be good to have a topic that focused on
the finished work of the cross.
What did Christ accomplish for us on the cross?

Ephesians 2:14-16
For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier,
the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations.
His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace,
and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross,
by which he put to death their hostility.

The message of the cross is the power of God.
The cross of Christ is powerful.
"But I, when I am lifted up from the earth,
will draw all men to myself." - John 12:32
I am not ashamed of the gospel,
because it is the power of God
for the salvation of everyone who believes:
first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
- Romans 1:16

1 Corinthians 1:17-18
For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—
not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
Christ the Wisdom and Power of God
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Here the Apostle to the gentiles contrasts the offense of the cross to the message of the judaizers.
The judaizers are here inferred because of the message they preach which is opposed the the message of the cross.

Still wanting to fit into Jewish religious society, the circumcision group was promoting the law.
Even requiring gentiles to "be circumcised" and "to obey the law of Moses." - Acts 15:5

He makes a firm case against those who promote gentiles being under law.
"Not even those who are circumcised obey the law, yet they want you to be circumcised..." - Galatians 6:13

Between the lines, the Apostle Paul is saying these judaizers need to take a stand for Christ instead of Judaism.
You can stand with Christ or you can stand for the law. You can't do both.

Galatians 5:10-12
I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view.
The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.
Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted?
In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. As for those agitators,
I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!

Galatians 6:11-13
See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!
Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised.
The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.
Not even those who are circumcised obey the law, yet they want you to be circumcised
that they may boast about your flesh.

The substitutionary atonement.
It's what Christ did for us on the cross.
He took our place. He paid our penalty.
By his wounds we have been healed.

2 Corinthians 5:21
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us,
so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

1 Peter 3:18
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous,
to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree,
so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness;
by his wounds you have been healed.

Christ forgave our sins by canceling the written code.
The written code, with its regulations that were against us.
The written code, that stood opposed to us.
The written code, that he took it away.
The written code, that he nailed to the cross.

Colossians 2:13-15
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature,
God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code,
with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away,
nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities,
he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is the written code?
Romans 2:27
The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who,
even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
Romans 2:29
No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart,
by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God.
Romans 7:6
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that
we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
Colossians 2:14
having canceled the written code, with its regulations,
that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away,
nailing it to the cross.
Christ forgave our sins by canceling the written code.
Did you get that?
Canceling the written code brought forgiveness of sins.
Christ paid our debt to the law. He paid what we owed.
He paid for the law, with its regulations that were against us.
He paid for the law, that stood opposed to us.
It was the law, that he took away.
It was the law, that he nailed to the cross.
Here is the verse that follows this passage.
It begins with "therefore".
Colossians 2:16
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink,
or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.
I prefer going by what the original apostles said.
From The Didache Chapter 4
You should hate all hypocrisy and all that is not pleasing to the Lord. Do not forsake the commandments of the Lord, and keep (the teachings) you have received, not adding and not taking away. In church, you should confess your faults; and do not go to prayer with an evil conscience. This is the Way of Life.
Why would you assume the "commandments of the Lord" are the law God gave to Israel through Moses?
Probably everywhere in the Didache, references to the Lord refer to Jesus.
Chapter Four
My child, you should remember night and day the one who speaks to you the Word of God, and honor him as you would the Lord; for where the delegated authority speaks, there is the Lord.
Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All
Hebrews 10:1-14
The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves.
For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year,
make perfect those who draw near to worship.
2 If it could, would they not have stopped being offered?
For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all,
and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.
3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins,
4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:
“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;
6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings
you were not pleased.
7 Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—
I have come to do your will, O God.’”
8 First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings
and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”
(although the law required them to be made).
9 Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”
He sets aside the first to establish the second.
10 And by that will, we have been made holy
through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties;
again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins,
he sat down at the right hand of God.
13 Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool,
14 because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever
those who are being made holy.
Chapter 16. Watchfulness; the Coming of the Lord. Watch for your life's sake.
Let not your lamps be quenched, nor your loins unloosed; but be ready, for you know not the hour
in which our Lord will come. But come together often, seeking the things which are befitting to your souls:
for the whole time of your faith will not profit you, if you are not made perfect in the last time.
For in the last days false prophets and corrupters shall be multiplied, and the sheep shall be turned into wolves,
and love shall be turned into hate; for when lawlessness increases, they shall hate and persecute and betray
one another, and then shall appear the world-deceiver as Son of God, and shall do signs and wonders,
and the earth shall be delivered into his hands, and he shall do iniquitous things which have never yet
come to pass since the beginning. Then shall the creation of men come into the fire of trial, and many shall be
made to stumble and shall perish; but those who endure in their faith shall be saved from under the curse itself.
And then shall appear the signs of the truth: first, the sign of an outspreading in heaven, then the sign of
the sound of the trumpet. And third, the resurrection of the dead -- yet not of all, but as it is said:
"The Lord shall come and all His saints with Him." Then shall the world see the Lord coming upon the clouds of heaven.
