Lets see where this goes. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (John 5:24)

[quote]pw As I look around me I see so many different churches and teachings, yet they all have the same bible. And they look good too! Pen-striped suits, fine strong voices, persuasive manners and confidence……. very nice people…. (why do they differ so?)

[quote]pw The Reformation was 400 years ago, and what did it do? The Reformation ended the Dark Ages and revealed the Roman Catholic church for what it was. Murder and mayhem ruled under her hand......Millions and millions of people killed by the Roman Catholic Church........The Beast of Dan 7:7 and onward....... The Reformers identified the antichrist and knew what the Mark of the Beast was.
Out of the Reformation came the Methodist, and the Presbyterian and the Baptist and the Lutherian churches, to name but a few. What happened? Today look around you, who is protesting?'
The Protestants are in bed with the Roman Catholics. Creeping Compromise. The majority on the Supreme court of our country are RCC So whose will is swaying the Court, the Papacy.
Our country is making an image to the Beast power......and will fulfill the last of Rev 13 you and I will not be able to buy or sell except we have the mark.
Awake Awake ye that slumber......look around and see what is coming on the earth. Our cup is filling up, the patience of God is threadbare......

I fail to see what the people wear to church is an issue.

I wonder if the SDA has any sort of dress code? I know Jehovah's Witnesses have a dress code, for the men at least. Personally, I will wear just the same thing I would wear going to a store or out to eat a casual meal. Sometimes I wear my leather Dr. Scholl shoes rather then my New Balance walking sneakers, I usually save my polished dress shoes for weddings and funerals.
At this time of year I wear a polo shirt, basically a tee shirt with a collar and shorts. When it gets cooler I will wear my jeans or corduroys. When it gets really cold I'll even put on my dependable flannel shirts. When I studied with Witnesses, I had about a half dozen suits and sports coats, button down shirt and ties. I always wore my polished dress shoes.
When I was a kid, it was mandatory for women going into a Catholic church to have their head covered... I guess they didn't want the full beauty of a mature woman to distract the priests from the little boys. Today all the orthodox Jewish women have their head covered out in public.
Some people say the clothes make the man.... I guess I'm just a ragamuffin.Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Me too! I dress casual for church. I rarely wear a suit and only own one. The pastor at the church I attend always says, God isn't into how fancy your wardrobe is, his only interest is your heart. I agree with him.
I believe the SDA does strongly encourage a formal dress code and from my understanding the COG requires a suit for men and long dresses for the ladies. They both have guidelines concerning jewelry too.
I personally believe, to each his own as long as "everything" is covered up!

Sarge Jehovah's Witnesses have a dress code for the women, but most of the time they seem to look the other way. Women are supposed to dress modestly, not wear flashy jewelry or have short hair. I approached the top elder on the issue and I got a bunch of double talk. It seems that men must be clean shaven and dressed like a mortician, but women seem to get by with what is "socially acceptable."
I would guess not all congregations are the same, but the ones I have been to have a very relaxed idea of what women should wear.Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Sarge Back in the Lutheran Church we were always expected to wear our (Sunday) best as we were told that when we go to a worship service we are going formerly before God and we should dress appropriately.

That wasn't the original plan.
Genesis 2:25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

UNTIL they sinned. I wonder if Adam and Eve had not sinned would we and all mankind still all be running around naked ? That is one I would not care to see or be seen.

pw:Quote Watch and obey, for there is not other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to serve Him and obey Him.

Story behind the song - Trust and Obey Composer John H. Sammis Writes Trust and Obey Trust from Youth Background Image John H. Sammis (1846-1919), gave up his life as a businessman and part-time YMCA worker to study for the ministry. He was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1880 and then served at several pastorates. In his later years, Sammis taught at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles.
Daniel B. Towner (1850-1919) was music director for several well-known churches and schools, including the Moody Bible Institute. He published several music books and wrote the music for many well-loved hymns, including At Calvary and Only A Sinner Saved By Grace.
In 1887, just following an evangelistic meeting held by Dwight L. Moody, a young man stood to share his story in an after-service testimony meeting. As he was speaking, it became clear to many that he knew little about the Bible or acceptable Christian doctrine. His closing lines, however, spoke volumes to seasoned and new believers alike: I'm not quite sure. But I'm going to trust, and I'm going to obey.
Daniel Towner was so struck by the power of those simple words that he quickly jotted them down, then delivered them to John Sammis, who developed the lyrics to Trust and Obey. Towner composed the music and the song quickly became a favorite. It remains popular with hymn singers today.
Refrain: Trust and obey, for there's no other way To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will, He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies, But His smile quickly drives it away; Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear, Can abide while we trust and obey.
Refrain
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share, But our toil He doth richly repay; Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross, But is blessed if we trust and obey.
Refrain
But we never can prove the delights of His love Until all on the altar we lay; For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows, Are for them who will trust and obey.
Refrain
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet. Or we'll walk by His side in the way. What He says we will do, where He sends we will go; Never fear, only trust and obey.

I wonder if I'll ever stop condemning myself?? "Then in fellowship sweet I'll sit at His feet." When I think about that I can't even express in words how I feel.
