Good Morning. Today is the third workday of the week.

Ephesians 6:10-13 (KJV) 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

In the past 20 years I've not seen such atrocities as is occurring today....out in the open......for all to see.

wickedness in high places.

Satan is on the attack on all fronts.

"The Catholic Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her Founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant, claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday.

In this matter the Seventh Day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant. The Catholic Universe Bulletin, Aug. 14, 1942, p.4

"The observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the [Catholic] church." Monsignor Louis Segur, Plain Talk About the Protestantism of Today (1868), p. 213

Exodus 20: 8-11,
(8) Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. (9) Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work: (10) But the Seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: (11) For in six days the Lord made the heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the Seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Colossians 2:8 warns us to:
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

What power has claimed authority to change God's law?
The Papacy in Rome.
"The Pope is of so great authority and power that he can modify, explain, or interpret even Divine Laws...The Pope can modify divine law, since his power is not of man, but of God, and he acts as vicegerent of God upon earth." Translated from Lucius Ferraris, Prompta Bibliotheca (Ready Library), "Papa", art. 2.

What part of the law of God has the papacy thought to change?
The Fourth Commandment.
"Catholics alledge the change of the Sabbath into the Lord's day, contrary, as it seemeth, to the Decalogue; and they have no example more in their mouth than the change of the Sabbath. They will needs have to be very great, because it hath dispensed with a precept of the Decalogue." The Augsburg Confession (Lutheran), part 2, art. 7, in Philip Schaff, The Creeds of Christendom (Harper), vol. 3, p. 64.

"It [the Roman Catholic Church] reversed the Fourth Commandment by doing away with the Sabbath of God's word and instituting Sunday as a holiday." N. Summerbell, History of the Christian Church (1873), p. 415.

Does the papacy acknowledge changing the Sabbath?
It does.
The Catechismus Romanus was commanded by the Council of Trent and published by the Vatican Press, by order of Pope Pius V, in 1566. This catechism for priests says: "It pleased the church of God, that the religious celebration of the Sabbath day should be transferred to 'the Lord's day. Sunday.'" Catechism of the Council of Trent (Donovan's translation, 1867), part 3, chap. 4, p. 345. The same in slightly different wording, is in the McHugh and Callan translation (1937 ed.), p. 402.

Do Catholic authorities acknowledge that there is no command in the bible for santification of Sunday?
They do.
"You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify." James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of Our Fathers (1917 ed.), pp. 72,73.

How did Sunday observance originate?
As a voluntary celebration of the Resurrection, a custom without pretense of Divine authority.

Who first enjoined Sunday keeping by law?
Constantine the Great.
"The earliest recognition of the observance of Sunday as a legal duty is a constitution of Constantine in 321 A.D., enacting that all courts of justice, inhabitants of towns, and workshops were to be at rest on Sunday (venerabili die solis), with an exception in favor of those engaged in agricultural labor." Encyclopedia Britannica, 11th ed., art. "Sunday".

By what church council was the observance of the seventh day forbidden and Sunday observance enjoined?
The Council of Laodicea, in Asia Minor, fourth century.

What kind of worship does the Saviour call that which is not according to God's commandments?
"But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men." Matt. 15:9

Roman Catholic and Protestant Confessions about Sunday
The vast majority of Christian churches today teach the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, as a time for rest and worship. Yet it is generally known and freely admitted that the early Christians observed the seventh day as the Sabbath. How did this change come about?

History reveals that it was decades after the death of the apostles that a politico-religious system repudiated the Sabbath of Scripture and substituted the observance of the first day of the week. The following quotations, all from Roman Catholic sources, freely acknowledge that there is no Biblical authority for the observance of Sunday, that it was the Roman Church that changed the Sabbath to the first day of the week.

In the second portion of this booklet are quotations from Protestants. Undoubtedly all of these noted clergymen, scholars, and writers kept Sunday, but they all frankly admit that there is no Biblical authority for a first-day sabbath.

Preserving Church Unity
Read 2 Timothy 2:15 and Titus 1:9. According to Paul’s counsels to Timothy and Titus, what crucial tasks are the responsibility of a faithful church leader and elder?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
Notice how much emphasis Paul puts on keeping the doctrines and teachings pure. This is crucial for unity, especially because one could argue that, more than anything else, our teachings are what unify our church. Again, as Adventists, as people from so many different walks of life, cultures, and backgrounds, our unity in Christ is found in our understanding of the truth that Christ has given. If we get confused on these teachings, then only chaos and division will come, especially as we near the end.

“I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for them- selves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables” (2 Tim. 4:1–4, NKJV).

With these words, Paul focuses his inspired thoughts on the second coming of Jesus and on the day of judgment. The apostle uses all his God-given authority (see 1 Tim. 1:1) to give Timothy this important counsel. In the context of the last days, with false teachings abounding and immorality rising, Timothy is to preach the Word of God. That is the ministry he has been called to.

As part of his teaching ministry, Timothy is to convince, rebuke, and exhort. These verbs are reminiscent of the guidance given by the Scriptures (2 Tim. 3:16). Clearly, Timothy’s work is to follow, teach, and implement what he finds in the Scriptures and to do so with long- suffering and patience. Harsh and severe rebukes rarely bring a sinner to Christ. By following what Paul wrote, and following it under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and with a servant-leader attitude, Timothy would be a powerfully unifying force in the church.

What are practical ways that we can help our church leaders maintain unity in the church? How can we make sure we are always a force for unity as opposed to disunity, even amid dis- putes?
Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous
schemes of the Democrats. It is because the pope’s Jesuits have thoroughly
infiltrated the Republican party as well as the Democratic party. Many wonder why
the news media lie so much to support and protect the Democrats. It is because the
pope’s Jesuits have thoroughly infiltrated the news media. The news media and
schools and colleges, with their lies and propaganda, have so conditioned the
people of the country that they are unable to recognize what has been done to them.
Victory for the Jesuits seems very near. The Jesuits are like a cancer that has
pervaded nearly every fiber of the society of the United States. We are being
defeated by the enemy within.

For many years the Jesuits have prevented the United States from developing
additional sources of energy within its own territory. Exploiting the vast oilfields on
the Alaskan north slope, that probably contain more oil than the entire middle east,
is forbidden. New nuclear power plants, the safest source of electric energy ever
discovered, are not permitted. There is no end to the lies people have been made to
believe about Nuclear energy. The environment is used as the club to subdue the
people of the country into going along with this idiocy. Modern technology is able to
develop these sources of power without any damage to the environment. France
gets 80% of its power from nuclear power plants without any problems. Needless to
say, without sufficient energy, the United States will not be able to defend itself. All
the papacy has to do is cut off the oil supply from the middle east.

The United States is now starting to feel the pinch of the energy shortage the Jesuits
have created. People have experienced blackouts over large areas as power is shut
off to stay within the limits of generating capacity. Today, instead of constructing
additional nuclear power plants, some of these plants are being dismantled! Will the
people of the United States be able to wake up in time to prevent the coming
national tragedy?

Not only in the United States is this treachery being perpetrated by the papacy, but
they are secretly at work all over the world to subvert all the nations of the world.

Good Morning. Today is the fourth workday of the week following the sabbath.

Section 3

The Way to Christ

Chapter 23.

Acceptance With God

1. IN whom has God made us accepted?
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings. . . in Christ: according as He hath chosen us in Him. . . to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved." Eph. 1:3-6.

2. What great gift comes with our acceptance of Christ?
"And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40. See also John 17:2.

3. What is the first and primary evidence of our acceptance with God?
"If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which He hath testified of His Son. . . . And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son." 1 John 5:9-11.

NOTE.-The primary basis of all faith and acceptance is the word of God, - that which God Himself has said. To receive and believe this is the first essential to salvation, - the first evidence of acceptance.

Page 107

4. Why did John write his testimony concerning God's love and purpose in giving Christ?
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." Verse 13. "These are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name." John 20:31.

5. What witness does the true believer in Christ have that he is accepted of God?
"He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God bath made Him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son." 1 John 5:10.

NOTE.-Faith and feeling should not be confounded. Faith is ours to exercise in the Word of God, regardless or our feelings, and often in opposition even to our feelings. Many fail to accept the pardon and assurance of the acceptance of Heaven, because they do not take God at His word, but instead turn their attention to their changeable moods and feelings. Faith always precedes the joyful feelings which naturally result from the assurance of forgiveness and acceptance. This order is never reversed.

6. How only do any become children of God?
"Ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus." Gal. 3:26.

7. What is the foundation of faith?
"Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Rom. 10:17.

8. What assurance has the believer of his union with God?
"Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit." 1 John 4:13.

9. What three definite witnesses of acceptance are mentioned by John?
"There are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one." 1 John 5:8.

10. How does the Spirit witness to our acceptance with God?
"Because ye are sons, God bath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father." Gal. 4:6. "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. " Rom. 8:16.

Page 109

11. Of what is Christian baptism an evidence?
"As many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ." Gal. 3:27.

NOTE.-In baptism, the water and the Spirit both bear witness of God's acceptance. The same Spirit which, at Christ's baptism, said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased," witnesses to the acceptance of every sincere believer at his baptism.

12. To what does the blood of Christ witness?
"These things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. . . . If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin." 1 John 1:4-7. "In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins." Eph. 1:7. See also Rev. 1:5,6.

13. When may we find acceptance with God through Christ?
"I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." 2 Cor. 6:2.

14. To whom, therefore, should we ascribe glory and honor?
"Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." Rev. 1:5,6.

15. What is another evidence of divine acceptance?
"We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren." 1 John 3:14.

16. What blessed assurance is given all believers in Christ?
"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:7.

Arise, my soul, arise,
Shake off thy guilty fears;
The bleeding Sacrifice
In my behalf appears;
Before the throne my Saviour stands,
My name is written on His hands.

Five bleeding wounds He bears,
Received on Calvary;
They pour effectual prayers,
They strongly speak for me.
Forgive him, O, forgive! they cry,
Nor let the contrite sinner die!
CHARLES WESLEY.

Roman Catholic Confessions
James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of our Fathers, 88th ed., pp. 89.
"But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify."

Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism 3rd ed., p. 174

"Question:  Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?

"Answer:  Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her-she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority."

John Laux, A Course in Religion for Catholic High Schools and Academies
(1 936), vol. 1, P. 51.

"Some theologians have held that God likewise directly determined the Sunday as the day of worship in the New Law, that He Himself has explicitly substituted the Sunday for the Sabbath. But this theory is now entirely abandoned. It is now commonly held that God simply gave His Church the power to set aside whatever day or days she would deem suitable as Holy Days. The Church chose Sunday, the first day of the week, and in the course of time added other days as holy days."

Daniel Ferres, ed., Manual of Christian Doctrine (1916), p.67.

"Question: How prove you that the Church hath power to command feasts and holy days?

"Answer. By the very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday, which Protestants allow of, and therefore they fondly contradict themselves, by keeping Sunday strictly, and breaking most other feasts commanded by the same Church.'

James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore (1877-1921), in a signed letter.

"Is Saturday the seventh day according to the Bible and the Ten Commandments? I answer yes. Is Sunday the first day of the week and did the Church change the seventh day -Saturday - for Sunday, the first day? I answer yes . Did Christ change the day'? I answer no!
"Faithfully yours, J. Card. Gibbons"

The Catholic Mirror, official publication of James Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893.
"The Catholic Church, . . . by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday."

Catholic Virginian Oct. 3, 1947, p. 9, art. "To Tell You the Truth."
"For example, nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is the 7th day of the week, Saturday. Today most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the[Roman Catholic] church outside the Bible."
Peter Geiermann, C.S.S.R., The Converts Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1957), p. 50.

"Question: Which is the Sabbath day?

"Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.

"Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?

"Answer. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday."

Martin J. Scott, Things Catholics Are Asked About (1927),p. 136.

"Nowhere in the Bible is it stated that worship should be changed from Saturday to Sunday .... Now the Church ... instituted, by God's authority, Sunday as the day of worship. This same Church, by the same divine authority, taught the doctrine of Purgatory long before the Bible was made.

We have, therefore, the same authority for Purgatory as we have for Sunday."

Todays SS lesson: December 19
Church Discipline
One of the main issues of church organization is to deal with disci- pline. How discipline helps to preserve church unity is sometimes a touchy subject and easily may be misunderstood. But from a biblical perspective, church discipline centers on two important areas: preserv- ing purity of doctrine and preserving purity of church life and practice.

As we already have seen, the New Testament maintains the impor- tance of preserving the purity of biblical teaching in the wake of apos- tasy and false teaching, particularly at the end of time. The same goes for preserving the respectability of the community by guarding against immorality, dishonesty, and depravity. For this reason the Scripture is spoken of as “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16, NKJV).

Read Matthew 16:19 and 18:15–20. What principles did Jesus give to the church regarding discipline and admonishing those who are at fault?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
The Bible supports the concept of discipline and of our account- ability to each other in our spiritual and moral lives. In fact, one of the distinguishing marks of the church is its holiness, or separation, from the world. We certainly find in the Bible many examples of difficult situations that required the church to act decisively against immoral behaviors. Moral standards must be maintained in the church.

What principles do these passages teach us to follow when addressing difficult issues in the church? Matt. 7:1–5; Gal. 6:1, 2.
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
We cannot deny the biblical teaching about the need of church dis- cipline. We cannot be faithful to the Word without it. But notice the redemptive quality in many of these admonitions. As much as possible, discipline should be redemptive. We need to remember, too, that we are all sinners and that we all need grace. Thus, when we administer discipline we need to do it in
humility and with a keen awareness of our own failings, as well.In our dealings with those who err, how can we learn to act with an attitude of redemption more than of punishment?

Section 3

The Way to Christ

Chapter 24.

Justification by Faith

1. WHAT is the ground of justification on God's part?
"That being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." Titus 3:7.

2. What is the means through which this justifying grace is made available to the sinner?
"Much more then, being now justified by His [Christ's] blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him." Rom. 5:9.

3. How is justification laid hold upon?
"Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." Rom. 3:28.

4. What is the only way sinners may be justified, or made righteous?
"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." Gal. 2:16.

5. What concrete example makes clear the meaning of this doctrine?
"And He brought him [Abraham] forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and He said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the Lord; and He counted it to him for righteousness." Gen. 15:5,6.

Page 111

6. How is the righteousness thus obtained described?
"And be found in Him, not having thine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith." Phil. 3:9.

7. Upon what basis is justification granted?
"And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offenses unto justification." Rom. 5:16.

8. Upon what basis does the reward come to one who works?
"Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt." Rom. 4:4.

9. Upon what condition is faith reckoned for righteousness?
"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." Verse 5.

10. How does grace, as the ground of justification, exclude righteousness by works?
"And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." Rom. 11:6.

11. In what way are both Jews and Gentiles to be justified?
"Is He the God of the Jews only? is He not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith." Rom. 3:29,30.

12. What statement testifies to Abraham's faith in God?
"He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that what He had promised, He was able also to perform." Rom. 4:20,21.

13. What did this bring to him?
"And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness." Verse 22.

14. How may we receive this same imputed righteousness?
"Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead." Verses 23,24.

Page 112

15. Why must justifying faith lay hold upon both the death and the resurrection of Christ?
"Who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification." Verse 25. See 1 Cor. 15:17.

NOTE.-The resurrection of Christ, the promised Seed (Gal. 3:16), was necessary in order to fulfill to Abraham the promise of an innumerable seed; and therefore Abraham's faith in the promise of God, which included the resurrection, was reckoned to him for righteousness. His faith laid hold upon that which made imputed righteousness possible. See Heb. 11:17-19.

16. What is inseparable from the experience of justification by faith?
"Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: and by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses." Acts 13:38,39.

17. How has Christ made it possible for righteousness to be imputed to the believer?
"For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." Rom. 5:19.

18. What prophetic declaration foretold this truth?
"In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory." Isa. 45:25.

19. What other prediction asserts the same great truth?
"By His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities." Isa. 53:11.

20. What does the imputed righteousness of Christ enable God to do, and still be just?
"To declare, I say, at this time His righteousness: that He might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." Rom. 3:26.

21. By what name is Christ appropriately called?
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His name whereby He shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." Jer. 23:5,6.

Page 113

22. What blessed experience follows upon the acceptance of Christ as our righteousness?
"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Rom. 5:1.

23. What does Christ thus become to the believer?
"For He is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us." Eph. 2:14.

24. On what basis is there no possibility of justification for the sinner?
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." Rom. 3:20.

25. How does the death of Christ bear testimony to this?
"I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain." Gal. 2:21.

26. What is proved by any attempt to be justified by the law?
"Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." Gal. 5:4.

27. Why did Israel fail to attain unto righteousness?
"But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone." Rom. 9:31,32.

28. What is revealed by the law?
"By the law is the knowledge of sin." Rom. 3:20.

29. What bears witness to the genuineness of the righteousness obtained by faith, apart from the deeds of the law?
"But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets." Verse 21.

30. Does faith set aside the law of God?
"Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." Verse 31.

Page 114

31. What scripture shows that the righteousness which is received by grace through faith must not be made an excuse for continuing in sin?
"What shall we say then ? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" Rom. 6:1,2.

32. Does faith exclude works?
"But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" James 2:20.

33. What is the evidence of genuine, living faith?
"Show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works." Verse 18.

34. What, then, are the visible proofs of genuine justification by faith?
"Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." Verse 24. See also verse 22.

35. What great exchange has been wrought for us in Christ?
"For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him." 2 Cor. 5:21.

NOTE.-Said Luther: "Learn to know Christ and Him crucified. Learn to sing a new song - to despair of your own works, and to cry unto Him, Lord Jesus, Thou art my righteousness, and I am Thy sin. Thou hast taken upon Thee what was mine, and given to me what was Thine; what Thou wast not Thou becamest, that I might become what I was not." -D'Aubigne's "History of the Reformation," book 2, chap. 8.

Look upon Jesus, sinless is He;
Father, impute His life unto me.
My life of scarlet, my sin and woe,
Cover with His life, whiter than snow.

Deep are the wounds transgression has made:
Red are the stains; my soul is afraid.
O to be covered, Jesus, with Thee,
Safe from the law that now judgeth me!

Longing the joy of pardon to know;
Jesus holds out a robe white as snow:
"Lord, I accept it! leaving my own,
Gladly I wear Thy pure life alone."

Reconciled by His death for my sin,
Justified by His life pure and clean,
Sanctified by obeying His word,
Glorified when returneth my Lord,

Organizing for Mission
As we have seen throughout this quarter (and which bears repeat- ing), as a church we have been organized and unified for mission, for outreach. We are not just a social club for like-minded people to get together and affirm each other in what we believe (though that can be important, as well). We have been brought together to share with the world the truth that we, ourselves, have come to love.

In Matthew 28:18–20, Jesus gave His disciples final instructions for their mission to the world. Identify the key words of Jesus’ command. What do these words imply for the church today?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
Jesus’ great commission to His disciples includes four key verbs: go, make disciples, baptize, and teach. According to the Greek grammar of these verses, the main verb is to make disciples, and the other three verbs indicate how this can be done.

Disciples are made when believers go to all nations to preach the gospel, baptize people, and teach them to observe what Jesus said.

As the church responds to this commission, God’s kingdom is enlarged, and more and more people of all nations join the ranks of those who accept Jesus as Savior. Their obedience to Jesus’ commands to be baptized and to observe His teachings creates a new universal family. The new disciples also are assured of the presence of Jesus every day as they themselves make more disciples. The presence of Jesus is a promise of the presence of God. The Gospel of Matthew begins with the announcement that the birth of Jesus is about “God with us” (Matt. 1:23) and ends with the promise of Jesus’ continued presence with us until His second coming.

“Christ did not tell His disciples that their work would be easy. . . . He assured them that He would be with them; and that if they would go forth in faith, they should move under the shield of Omnipotence. He bade them be brave and strong; for One mightier than angels would be in their ranks—the General of the armies of heaven. He made full provision for the prosecution of their work and took upon Himself the responsibility of its success. So long as they obeyed His word, and worked in connection with Him, they could not fail.”—Ellen G. White, The Acts of the Apostles, p. 29.

Reflect on the meaning of the promise of Jesus’ presence with His people until His second coming. How should the reality of this promise impact us as we seek to fulfill the commission that we have been given by Jesus?

Today is the preparation, the sabbath is drawing on.

Thus saith the Lord; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; 22 Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye 1any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers. 23 But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction
(Jeremiah 17:21-23 KJV)

The Bible holy day is the Seventh Day.

Genesis 2:
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made
.

Exodus 20:
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Leviticus 23:3
Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

Isaiah 58:
13 ¶If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

Section 9

The Sabbath

Chapter 96.

The Sabbath in the4
New Testament

1. ACCORDING to the New Testament, what day immediately precedes the first day of the week?
"In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week." Matt. 28:1.

NOTE.-According to the New Testament, therefore, the Sabbath had passed when the first day of the week began.

2. After the crucifixion, what day was kept by the women who followed Jesus?
"And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment." Luke 23:56.

3. What day is the Sabbath, "according to the commandment"?
"But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God." Ex. 20:10.

4. What was Christ's custom respecting the Sabbath?
"And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read." Luke 4:16.

5. In what instruction to His disciples did Christ recognize the existence of the Sabbath long after His ascension?
"But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day." Matt. 24:20.

NOTE.-The destruction of Jerusalem under Titus occurred in the spring and summer of 70 A.D. The flight of the Christians took place three and one-half years earlier, or late in October, 66 A. D., following the arrival and sudden withdrawal of Cestius and his army. See readings in Chapter 68. of this book.

6. On what day did the Jews meet for worship?
"Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath day." Acts 15:21.

7. On what day did Paul and Barnabas preach at Antioch?
"They came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day." Acts 13:14.

8. When did the Gentiles request that Paul should repeat the sermon he had preached at Antioch on the Sabbath?
"And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath." Verse 42.

9. On what day did Paul and his companions preach to the devout women at Philippi?
"And on the Sabbath we went out of the city by a riverside, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither." Acts 16:13.

10. What was Paul's manner respecting the Sabbath?
"They came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: and Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures." Acts 17:1,2.

NOTE.-It was Paul's manner, as it was Christ's custom (Luke 4:16), to attend religious services on the Sabbath.

11. How did the apostle spend the working days of the week when at Corinth?
"After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth; and found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; . . . and because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tent-makers." Acts 18:1-3. See Eze. 46:1.

12. What did he do on the Sabbath days?
"And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks." Acts 18:4.

13. How long did he continue this work there?
"And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them." Verse 11.

NOTE.-Here, then, were seventy-eight Sabbaths on which Paul preached in one city. The record further says that he worked at his trade, and we may justly infer that Paul worked at tent-making just as many Sundays as he preached Sabbaths. If to these seventy-eight Sabbaths we add the three he spent at Thessalonica, the one at Philippi, and the two at Antioch, we have a record of eighty-four Sabbaths on which the apostle held religious services, while, so far as the record shows, he held only one meeting on the first day of the week, and that a night meeting, immediately following the Sabbath. See Acts 20. Evidently Sunday was not the Sabbath in Paul's day.

14. On what day was John in the Spirit?
"I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day." Rev. 1:10.

15. Who is Lord of the Sabbath?
"The Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath." Mark 2:28.

16. What, through the prophet Isaiah, does the Lord call the Sabbath?
"If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on My holy day." Isa. 58:13.

17. Why does the Lord call the Sabbath His day?
"For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it." Ex.20:11.

18. Through whom did God create the world?
"God. . . hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, . . . by whom also He made the worlds." Heb. 1:1,2.

NOTES.-From beginning to end, the Bible recognizes but one weekly Sabbath,- the day upon which God rested in the beginning; which was made known to Israel at Sinai (Neh. 9:13,14); was observed by Christ and His apostles; and is to be kept by the redeemed in the world to come. Isa. 66:22,23.

The terms Sabbath, Sabbaths, and Sabbath days occur sixty times in the New Testament, and in every case but one refer to the seventh day. In Col. 2:16,17, reference is made to the annual sabbaths connected with the three annual feasts observed by Israel before the first advent of Christ.

The first day of the week is mentioned but eight times in the New Testament, six of which are found in the four Gospels, and refer to the day on which Christ arose from the dead. See Matt. 28:1; Mark 16:2,9; Luke 24:1; John 20:1,19. The other two (Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:2) refer to the only religious meeting held on the first day of the week after the ascension, in apostolic times, recorded in the New Testament and to a systematic accounting and laying by in store at home on that day for the poor saints in Judea and Jerusalem.

It is evident, therefore, that the Sabbath of the New Testament is the same as the Sabbath of the Old Testament, and that there is nothing in the New Testament setting aside the seventh-day Sabbath, and putting the first day of the week in its place.

Peter R. Kraemer, Catholic Church Extension Society (1975),Chicago, Illinois.

"Regarding the change from the observance of the Jewish Sabbath to the Christian Sunday, I wish to draw your attention to the facts:

That Protestants, who accept the Bible as the only rule of faith and religion, should by all means go back to the observance of the Sabbath. The fact that they do not, but on the contrary observe the Sunday, stultifies them in the eyes of every thinking man.

"2) We Catholics do not accept the Bible as the only rule of faith. Besides the Bible we have the living Church, the authority of the Church, as a rule to guide us. We say, this Church, instituted by Christ to teach and guide man through life, has the right to change the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament and hence, we accept her change of the Sabbath to Sunday. We frankly say, yes, the Church made this change, made this law, as she made many other laws, for instance, the Friday abstinence, the unmarried priesthood, the laws concerning mixed marriages, the regulation of Catholic marriages and a thousand other laws.

It is always somewhat laughable, to see the Protestant churches, in pulpit and legislation, demand the observance of Sunday, of which there is nothing in their Bible."

"I have repeatedly offered $1,000 to anyone who can prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy. There is no such law in the Bible. It is a law of the holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says,
Enright, C.S.S.R., in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas, Feb. 18,1884.
'Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.' The Catholic Church says: 'No. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week.' And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in a reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church."

Protestant Confessions
Protestant theologians and preachers from a wide spectrum of denominations have been quite candid in admitting that there is no Biblical authority for observing Sunday as a sabbath.

Anglican/Episcopal
Isaac Williams, Plain Sermons on the Catechism , vol. 1, pp.334, 336.
"And where are we told in the Scriptures that we are to keep the first day at all? We are commanded to keep the seventh; but we are nowhere commanded to keep the first day .... The reason why we keep the first day of the week holy instead of the seventh is for the same reason that we observe many other things, not because the Bible, but because the church has enjoined it."

Canon Eyton, The Ten Commandments , pp. 52, 63, 65.
"There is no word, no hint, in the New Testament about abstaining from work on Sunday .... into the rest of Sunday no divine law enters.... The observance of Ash Wednesday or Lent stands exactly on the same footing as the observance of Sunday."
Bishop Seymour, Why We Keep Sunday .
We have made the change from the seventh day to the first day, from Saturday to Sunday, on the authority of the one holy Catholic Church."

Baptist
Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, a paper read before a New York ministers' conference, Nov. 13, 1893, reported in New York Examiner , Nov.16, 1893.

"There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath day was not Sunday. It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week .... Where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament absolutely not.

"To me it seems unaccountable that Jesus, during three years' intercourse with His disciples, often conversing with them upon the Sabbath question . . . never alluded to any transference of the day; also, that during forty days of His resurrection life, no such thing was intimated.

"Of course, I quite well know that Sunday did come into use in early Christian history . . . . But what a pity it comes branded with the mark of paganism, and christened with the name of the sun god, adopted and sanctioned by the papal apostasy, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to Protestantism!"

William Owen Carver, The Lord's Day in Our Day , p. 49.
"There was never any formal or authoritative change from the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath to the Christian first-day observance."

Congregationalist
Dr. R. W. Dale, The Ten Commandments (New York: Eaton &Mains), p. 127-129.
" . . . it is quite clear that however rigidly or devotedly we may spend Sunday, we are not keeping the Sabbath - . . 'Me Sabbath was founded on a specific Divine command. We can plead no such command for the obligation to observe Sunday .... There is not a single sentence in the New Testament to suggest that we incur any penalty by violating the supposed sanctity of Sunday."

Timothy Dwight, Theology: Explained and Defended (1823), Ser. 107, vol. 3, p. 258.
" . . . the Christian Sabbath [Sunday] is not in the Scriptures, and was not by the primitive Church called the Sabbath."

Further Thought: Ellen G. White, “Individual Responsibility and Christian Unity,” pp. 485–505, in Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers; “Unity in Diversity,” pp. 483–485; “Church Discipline,” pp. 498–503, in Gospel Workers. Read the articles “Church,” pp. 707–710, and “Church Organization,” pp. 712–714, in The Ellen G. White Encyclopedia.

“Principles of good leadership apply in all forms of society, includ- ing the church. However, the leader in the church must be more than a leader. He must also be a servant.

“There is an apparent contradiction between being a leader and being a servant. How can one lead and serve at the same time?

Does not the leader occupy a position of honor? Does he not command and expect others to obey him? How, then, does he occupy the lower position of being a servant, of receiving orders and fulfilling them?

“In order to resolve the paradox we must look at Jesus. He supremely represented the principle of leadership that serves. His whole life was one of service. And at the same time He was the greatest leader the world has ever seen.”—G. Arthur Keough, Our Church Today: What It Is and Can Be (Washington, D.C., and Nashville: Review and Herald, 1980), p. 106.

Discussion Questions:

 Dwell more on the idea of a servant leader. What, if any, exam- ples, can we find of this in the secular world?

 Read again Matthew 20:25–28. What does this tell us about how God understands the meaning of the word “great” (Matt. 20:26) in contrast to how the word is understood by the world?

 If one of the tasks of church leaders is to preserve unity, what should we do when church leaders falter, when their humanity prevents them from being perfect examples?

 Why is it so important that we administer church discipline with a spirit of graciousness and love toward the ones who are err- ing? Why should Matthew 7:12 always be foremost in our minds during the process?

Summary: Good church organization is essential to the mission of the church and to the unity of believers. Christ is the Head of the church, and church leaders are to follow His example as they lead the people of God. Unity is preserved through the faithful teaching of the Word of God and by living in faithfulness to that Word.

My Wife Left Church
By dAniel GATAn
My wife has stopped attending the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but I have not given up hope. Here’s why.

During repressive Communist times, a woman in my home country, Romania, learned about the Adventist Church and began to attend Sabbath services regularly. This infuriated her husband.

“Where are you going at the same time every Saturday?” he asked. “Honey, I am going to the Adventist church,” she said.

“I already know that,” he snapped. “You can keep going, but on one condi-
tion: You cannot be baptized. I don’t want to hear that you’ve been baptized, or I’ll kill you.”

As the woman read the Bible and learned more about Jesus, she became convicted that she needed to take a public stand for Jesus through baptism.

Church members surrounded the newly baptized people after the Sabbath ceremony. They offered hugs and colorful flowers. Everyone was smiling except for one woman. She wasn’t sure how her husband would react.

That afternoon, she found her husband in the front yard when she returned home with flowers in her arms. He was sitting at a wooden table with a sharp knife sticking out of the top.

“Where are the flowers from?” he asked.

“I was baptized today,” she replied.
His face turned purple with rage.

“Did you not believe me when I told you that I would kill you if you were
baptized?” he said, pulling the knife out of the tabletop. “Get ready to die,” he said and lunged at her.

His wife fled to the back of the house, where the couple had a garden. Her husband caught up to her in the cornstalks. As he raised the knife over his head, the woman begged for one last wish: to pray. The husband agreed and watched as his wife knelt.

He loomed over her as she spoke to God, holding the knife high above his head.

Suddenly, the knife blade silently slid out of the handle and fell harmlessly to the ground. The man’s face turned pale. His whole body began to tremble, and he fell to the ground beside the blade. His wife jumped to her feet and
helped him up. Wordlessly, they went into the house. After some time, the husband was baptized. God
changed his heart.

If God can change this man’s heart, I know He also
can touch my wife’s heart. I can trust in God even when all hope seems lost.

Yes there is some Truth in the world, but mixed with error......resulting in lies.

Alexander Campbell, The Christian Baptist, Feb. 2, 1824,vol. 1. no. 7, p. 164.
"'But,' say some, 'it was changed from the seventh to the first day.' Where? when? and by whom? No man can tell. No; it never was changed, nor could it be, unless creation was to be gone through again: for the reason assigned must be changed before the observance, or respect to the reason, can be changed! It is all old wives' fables to talk of the change of the Sabbath from the seventh to the first day. If it be changed, it was that august personage changed it who changes times and laws ex officio - I think his name is Doctor Antichrist.'

First Day Observance , pp. 17, 19.
"The first day of the week is commonly called the Sabbath. This is a mistake. The Sabbath of the Bible was the day just preceding the first day of the week. The first day of the week is never called the Sabbath anywhere in the entire Scriptures. It is also an error to talk about the change of the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. There is not in any place in the Bible any intimation of such a change."

Lutheran
The Sunday Problem , a study book of the United Lutheran Church (1923), p. 36.
"We have seen how gradually the impression of the Jewish sabbath faded from the mind of the Christian Church, and how completely the newer thought underlying the observance of the first day took possession of the church. We have seen that the Christians of the first three centuries never confused one with the other, but for a time celebrated both."

Augsburg Confession of Faith art. 28; written by Melanchthon, approved by Martin Luther, 1530; as published in The Book of Concord of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Henry Jacobs, ed. (1 91 1), p. 63.

"They [Roman Catholics] refer to the Sabbath Day, as having been changed into the Lord's Day, contrary to the Decalogue, as it seems. Neither is there any example whereof they make more than concerning the changing of the Sabbath Day. Great, say they, is the power of the Church, since it has dispensed with one of the Ten Commandments!"

Dr. Augustus Neander, The History of the Christian Religion and Church Henry John Rose, tr. (1843), p. 186.

"The festival of Sunday, like all other festivals, was always only a human ordinance, and it was far from the intentions of the apostles to establish a Divine command in this respect, far from them, and from the early apostolic Church, to transfer the laws of the Sabbath to Sunday."
John Theodore Mueller, Sabbath or Sunday , pp. 15, 16.
"But they err in teaching that Sunday has taken the place of the Old Testament Sabbath and therefore must be kept as the seventh day had to be kept by the children of Israel .... These churches err in their teaching, for Scripture has in no way ordained the first day of the week in place of the Sabbath. There is simply no law in the New Testament to that effect."

Methodist
Harris Franklin Rall, Christian Advocate, July 2, 1942, p.26.
"Take the matter of Sunday. There are indications in the New Testament as to how the church came to keep the first day of the week as its day of worship, but there is no passage telling Christians to keep that day, or to transfer the Jewish Sabbath to that day."

John Wesley, The Works of the Rev. John Wesley, A.M., John Emory, ed. (New York: Eaton & Mains), Sermon 25,vol. 1, p. 221.
"But, the moral law contained in the ten commandments, and enforced by the prophets, he [Christ] did not take away. It was not the design of his coming to revoke any part of this. This is a law which never can be broken .... Every part of this law must remain in force upon all mankind, and in all ages; as not depending either on time or place, or any other circumstances liable to change, but on the nature of God and the nature of man, and their unchangeable relation to each other."

Dwight L. Moody
D. L. Moody, Weighed and Wanting (Fleming H. Revell Co.: New York), pp. 47, 48.
The Sabbath was binding in Eden, and it has been in force ever since. This fourth commandment begins with the word 'remember,' showing that the Sabbath already existed when God Wrote the law on the tables of stone at Sinai. How can men claim that this one commandment has been done away with when they will admit that the other nine are still binding?"

Presbyterian
T. C. Blake, D.D., Theology Condensed, pp.474, 475.
"The Sabbath is a part of the decalogue - the Ten Commandments. This alone forever settles the question as to the perpetuity of the institution . . . . Until, therefore, it can be shown that the whole moral law has been repealed, the Sabbath will stand . . . . The teaching of Christ confirms the perpetuity of the Sabbath."

Final Restoration of Unity Sabbath afternoon
Read for This Week’s Study: John 14:1–3, Isa. 11:1–10, Rev. 21:1–5, 1 Thess. 4:13–18, Rev. 22:1–5, Isa. 35:4–10.
Memory Text: “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13, NKJV).

One of the greatest promises of the Bible is Jesus’ promise to come again. Without it, we have nothing, because our hopes center in that promise and what it means for us. When Christ returns in the clouds of heaven, all that is earthly and human-made and thus temporary and at times meaningless will be swept away. After the millennium in heaven, this earth with its wars, famines, diseases, and tragedies will be made new and become the dwelling place of the redeemed, finally reunited with their Lord and with each other.

Hope in the second coming of Christ is a major theme of the New Testament, and for centuries Christians have longed for the fulfillment of this promise. We as Seventh-day Adventists also long for His return. Indeed, our name itself proclaims that hope.

In this final lesson, we look at this promise and what it means for Christian unity. Our oneness in Christ is often challenged by our human limitations and weaknesses. But we will no longer need to seek for solutions to our fragmentation, because there will be no
fragmentation. At the Second Advent, we will be one with the Lord, finally reunited and forming one restored family.
* Study this week’s lesson to prepare for Sabbath, December 29.

Victory for the Jesuits seems very near. The Jesuits are like a cancer that has

Modern technology is able to

the papacy has to do is cut off the oil supply from the middle east.

The United States is now starting to feel the pinch of the energy shortage the Jesuits
have created. People have experienced blackouts over large areas as power is shut
off to stay within the limits of generating capacity. Today, instead of constructing
additional nuclear power plants, some of these plants are being dismantled! Will the

Good Morning. Today is the first workday of the week.....sunday.

This day is mentioned 9 times in the Bible. Look them up.

No mention of sanctity....holiness.....new worship day....no mention at all.

So why all these Christian people ignoring the sabbath day?

huh?

Of the Ten, the one they "forget", is the one that says "Remember".

Wesley writes:
“I cannot spare the law one moment, no more than I can spare Christ…each is continually sending me to the other, …the law to Christ, and Christ to the law….the height and depth the law constrain me to fly to the love of God in Christ…the love of God in Christ endears the law to me..above gold or precious stones.” (The Original Nature, Property, and use the Law IV 7)

Wesley’s understanding of salvation went beyond Luthers’ Focus on Justification and added to it the idea of regeneration, being born again.. and how the indwelling of the Spirit in our lives transforms us and gives a new identity.

Wesley says that the moral law precedes not only Moses or Enoch but creation itself, humanity itself, being first given to the angels and the expression Gods’ eternal pre-creation and will. The moral law is for Wesley a reflection Gods’ eternal will and image found in Scripture and inscribed on every human heart.

Wesley even goes to far as to take the Christological language of the NT and applies this directly to the moral law calling it “An incorruptible picture the High and Holy One…the express image of His Person.” (The Original, Nature, Property, and use the Law.” 11.3

Charles Spurgeon
Jesus did not come to change the law, but He came to explain it. (Mt 5:17-20) and that very fact shows that it remains, for there is no need to explain that which is abrogated. Assuredly there was no abrogation of law.

It was a wonderful exhibition of its’ far reaching sovereignty and of its searching character. Once more, that the Master did not come to alter the law is clear, because after having embodied it in His life He willingly gave Himself to bear its penalty, though He had never broken it, bearing the penalty for us, even as it is written, “ “Christ hath redeem us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us.”

6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6 KJV). But because the law asked only what it ought to ask…namely perfect obedience and exacted of the transgressor only what it ought to exact, namely, death, as the penalty for sin, death under divine wrath, therefore the Saviour went to the tree, and there bore our sins, and purged them once for all. (Charles Spurgeon, Perpetuity of the Law of God. pp 4-7)

Dwight L. Moody: Now man may cavil as much as they like about other parts of the Bible, but I have never met an honest man that found fault with the Ten Commandments. Infidels may mock the Lawgiver and reject Him who has delivered us from the curse of the law, but they can’t help admitting that the commandments are right…they are for all nations and will remain the commandments of God through the centuries…The people must be made to understand that the TC are still binding, and that there is a penalty attached to their violation….Jesus never condemned the law and the prophets, but He did condemn those who did not obey them (See Mat 5:17-20) Dwight L. Moody, Weighed and Wanting pp 11,15,16

The Certainty of Christ’s Return
John 14:1–3 is the best-known promise of Jesus’ second coming. What does this promise tell you about the kind of life the redeemed will live on the new earth?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
Early Christians considered Christ’s return the “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13, NKJV). They expected all the prophecies and promises of Scripture to be fulfilled at the Second Advent, for it is the very goal of the Christian pilgrimage. All who love Christ look forward to the day they will be able to share face-to-face fellowship with Him. His words in those verses suggest a closeness and intimacy that we will share, not only with Jesus but with each other, as well.

Christians believe in this promise because the Bible assures us of its fulfillment. We have this assurance because we believe in the words of Jesus, “I will come again” (John 14:3, NKJV). Just as Christ’s first coming was prophesied, so His second coming also is foretold, even in the Old Testament.

Before the Flood, God told the patriarch Enoch that the Messiah’s coming in glory would put an end to sin. He prophesied, “ ‘Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him’ ” (Jude 14, 15, NKJV).

A thousand years before Jesus came to this earth, King David also prophesied of the Messiah’s coming to gather God’s people together. “Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people: ‘Gather My saints together to Me, those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice’ ” (Ps. 50:3–5, NKJV).

The second coming of Jesus is linked closely to His first advent. The prophecies that predicted His birth and ministry (for example, Gen. 3:15; Mic. 5:2; Isa. 11:1; Dan. 9:25, 26) are the foundation for our hope and trust in the promises about His second coming. Christ “has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. . . . So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation” (Heb. 9:26, 28, NKJV).

What are ways that you can even now draw hope and comfort from the promise of the Second Coming?

Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous

Good Morning. Today is the second workday of the week.

The Lord has placed President Trump into office and he has my prayers continually!

Many support the man and sadly much of what you hear is negative......

the negative voices were quiet a couple years ago..........?

This country has been miss-handled and a non-politician is necessary to correct the ship.

This country is where I live and I am so grateful to look at the rolling hills and realize that here is home.

Our freedoms will evaporate soon enough.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

Medieval Scholastic philosophers and theologians, such as Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Bonaventure, held that all the commandments are a part of the natural law and are therefore knowable to all thinking people. They maintained that God revealed the commandments to Moses to remind humankind of its obligations, easily forgotten because of original sin.

Actually, these scholars were echoing a similar idea expressed by early Fathers of the Church, such as Tertullian and Augustine, that the commandments had already been engraved on the human heart before they were written on the tablets of stone.

Parallels to the Decalogue are found in the laws of other ancient peoples. In Egyptian religion, for example, the observance of certain precepts (prohibitions against theft, murder, and injustice) was necessary for entrance into the shrine of Osiris, god and judge of the dead. Biblical scholars feel, however, that the Ten Commandments differ from the moral codes of other ancient religious systems in their explicit monotheism, their doctrine of God's awesome majesty and boundless goodness, and their extension of moral obligation to the most intimate and hidden desires of the human heart.

In the New Testament, all the commandments are mentioned but never in a list of ten.

Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?
    A. Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her;—she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority.

A Doctrinal Catechism by the Rev. Stephen Keenan, p. 174

“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act,… (A quotation from a letter written in November, 1895, by Mr. H. F. Thomas, chancellor to Carkinal Gibbons, replying to an inquiry as to whether the Catholic Church claims to have changed the Sabbath.)

WHO CHANGED THE
SABBATH SATURDAY TO SUNDAY?
Roman Catholic: No such law in the Bible "Nowhere in the bible do we find that Jesus or the apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is, the Seventh day of the week, Saturday. Today, all Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the [Roman] church outside the Bible." Catholic Virginian, Oct. 3, 1947

"You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctified." James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of Our Fathers (1917 ed.), pp.72,73

"If protestants would follow the Bible, they should worship God on the Sabbath Day, that is Saturday. In keeping Sunday they are following a law of the Catholic Church." Albert Smith, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, replying for the cardinal in a letter of Feb. 10, 1920.

The Promise of Restoration
Read Isaiah 11:1–10. What promise is given to Israel, and what does it say about the eternal dwelling place of the redeemed?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
The Bible begins with the story of the Creation of the earth (Genesis 1, 2). It is a description of a beautiful and harmonious world entrusted to our first parents, Adam and Eve. A perfect world and home for the human race, whom God had created. The Bible’s last two chapters also speak of God’s creating a perfect and harmonious world for redeemed humanity (Revelation 21, 22), but this time it is more accurate to say re-creation, the restoration of the earth from the ravages of sin.

In many places the Bible declares that this eternal home of the redeemed will be a real place, not an imagined fantasy or dream. The redeemed will be able to see, hear, smell, touch, and feel a new experi- ence, a new life. The prophecy of Isaiah 11 is a beautiful passage fore- telling the coming of the Messiah, who will create a new era. He will end all violence and usher in an eternal peace. The reign of God on this new earth will establish universal harmony.

Read Revelation 21:1–5.What will disappear forever as a result of this new harmony?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________

Ellen White wrote of what awaits the redeemed:
“As the years of eternity roll, they will bring richer and more glorious revelations of God and of Christ. As knowledge is progressive, so will love, reverence, and happiness increase. The more men learn of God, the greater will be their admiration of His character. As Jesus opens before them the riches of redemption and the amazing achievements in the great controversy with Satan, the hearts of the ransomed beat with a stronger devotion, and they sweep the harps of gold with a firmer hand: and ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands of voices unite to swell the mighty chorus of praise.”—Ellen G. White, The Story of Redemption, pp. 432, 433.

What are ways that we can understand even now the character of God? How does living in harmony and unity with others reveal something about the character and nature of God?

How prove you that the Church hath power to command feasts and holydays?
By the very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday, which Protestants allow of; and therefore they fondly contradict themselves, by keeping Sunday strictly, and breaking most other feasts commanded by the same Church." Henry Tuberville, An Abridgment of the Christian Doctrine (1833 approbation), p.58 (Same statement in Manual of Christian Doctrine, ed. by Daniel Ferris [1916 ed.], p.67)

"Is Saturday the 7th day according to the Bible and the 10 Commandments?"
"I answer yes".

"Is Sunday the first day of the week and did the Church change the 7th day, Saturday, for Sunday, the 1st day?"
"I answer yes".

"Did Christ change the day?"
"I answer no!" Faithfully yours, "J. Cardinal Gibbons" Gibbons' autograph letter.

Some theologians have held that God likewise directly determined the Sunday as the day of worship in the NEW LAW, that he himself has explicitly substituted Sunday for the Sabbath.

But this theory is entirely abandoned. It is now commonly held that God simply gave His church the power to set aside whatever day or days she would deem suitable as holy days. The church chose Sunday, the first day of the week, and in the course of time added other days as holy days."
John Laux A Course in Religion for Catholic High Schools and Academies 1936, vol.1 p.51

Which is the Sabbath day?
Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemity from Saturday to Sunday."
Peter Geiermann, The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1946 ed.), p.50. Geiermann received the "apostolic blessing" of Pope Pius X on his labors, January 25, 1910.

Resurrection and Restored Relationships
From the earliest days of the church the promise of Christ’s return has, perhaps more than anything else, sustained the hearts of God’s faithful people, especially during trials. Whatever their frightful struggles, what- ever their inconsolable sorrows and pain, they had the hope of Christ’s return and all the wonderful promises the Second Advent contains.

Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18. What promises are included in this pas- sage? What does this say about the hope of restored relationships?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
Christ’s second coming will affect all humanity in profound ways. An important aspect of the establishment of God’s kingdom is the gathering of the elect. “ ‘And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trum- pet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other’ ” (Matt. 24:31, NKJV). At the moment of this gathering, the righteous dead will be resurrected and receive immortality (1 Cor. 15:52, 53). “The dead in Christ will rise first” (1 Thess. 4:16, NKJV). This is the moment we all have been waiting for. The resurrected ones will reunite with those who have been longing for their presence and love. This is how Paul exults at this event: “ ‘O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?’ ” (1 Cor. 15:55, NKJV).

It is not the diseased, aged, disfigured bodies that went down into the grave that come up in the resurrection, but new, immortal, perfect bodies, no longer marked by the sin that caused their decay. The res- urrected saints experience the completion of Christ’s work of restora- tion, reflecting the perfect image of God intended at Creation (Gen. 1:26, 1 Cor. 15:46–49).

At the moment of Jesus’ second advent, when the redeemed dead are resurrected, the righteous alive on earth will be changed and also be given new, perfect bodies. “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality” (1 Cor. 15:53, NKJV). So, these two groups of redeemed, the resurrected and transformed righteous, “shall be caught up together . . . in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord” (1 Thess. 4:17, NKJV).

In our scientific age, even some Christians try to find a natural explanation for everything, including “miracles.” What does the promise of the resurrection teach us about why only the super- natural acts of God can save us?

Did you EVER say ANYTHING nice about Obama? Did you EVER say anything positive?

Please tell me, did YOU support Obama as our duly elected President? Do you STILL believe he was not born in this country and do you still believe he is a Muslim that tried to enact Sharia law in this country, rewrite the second amendment and take away our guns, giving them to the UN?

Please, do not try to speak for me or state what YOU think I believe. Do you support EVERY Republican, no matter who, no matter what they do or say? I seriously doubt it! Well, I don't blindly believe anyone, I never support or defend anyone blindly, certainly not based on party, anymore than I would accuse someone of holding a belief that they do not hold. Basic respect I was taught as a child.

You are parroting extremist right wing talking points and assuming I fit into YOUR extremist definition. I don't like Schumer or Pelosi, I think they should retire, so please refrain from asserting otherwise. The only problem is, neither you or I can do anything about them.... Schumer is a New York state senator and Pelosi is a representative in California. I live in West Virginia, you live in Virginia, it doesn't make the slightest difference how we feel about Pelosi and Schumer.... we can't vote for them or against them!

I am not an anarchist nor do I support any extremist action, right or left, for ANY cause. Breaking windows? Overturning automobiles? Running people down with automobiles? I do NOT support violence, rioting or destruction of property, no matter who you are or what your problem may be. I am NOT in line with that in any way, so please stop claiming otherwise!

"Have you not any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?"
"Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her, she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the Seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority" Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism 3rd ed. p. 174

"The Catholic Church,... by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.
" The Catholic Mirror, official organ of Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893.

It is inaccurate to say that I hate everything. I am strongly in favor of common sense, common honesty, and common decency. This makes me forever ineligible for public office.

7, in Philip Schaff,

The Creeds of Christendom (Harper), vol. 3, p.

A New Earth for the Redeemed
“ ‘For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind’ ” (Isa. 65:17, NKJV). Both Isaiah and John (Rev. 21:1) saw in vision the promised new earth.

Consider John’s description of the fabulous city of the redeemed, the New Jerusalem, in Revelation 21:2, 9–27. What do these verses imply about the unity and harmony that will exist in this city?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
Read Revelation 22:1–5. The river of life that flows from the throne of God with the tree of life that spans it are two other important fea- tures of the new city. What will be their purpose on the new earth?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
The tree of life, which Adam lost access to through his transgres- sion (Gen. 3:22–24), will be restored by Christ in the New Jerusalem. Access to this tree is one of the promises to those who overcome (Rev. 2:7). Its bearing twelve kinds of fruit, a new kind each month (Rev. 22:2), might possibly suggest a reason that in the new earth “ ‘from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me, says the Lord’ ” (Isa. 66:23, NKJV). The reference to the “healing of the nations” also underscores God’s intent to remove all barriers between people and to restore humanity to its original purpose: to restore all people, tribes, and nations into one undi- vided family, living in harmony and peace, united to give glory to God.

“ ‘The healing of the nations’ refers figuratively to the removal of all national and linguistic barriers and separation. . . . The leaves of the tree of life heal the breaches between nations. The nations are no lon- ger ‘gentiles’ but are united into one family as the true people of God ([compare] Rev. 21:24–26). What Micah anticipated centuries earlier is now being fulfilled: ‘Nation will not lift up sword against nation, and never again will they train for war.

Each of them will sit under his vine and under his fig tree, with no one to make them afraid’ (Mic. 4:3–4; [compare] Isa. 2:4). There on the banks of the river of life the redeemed will ‘invite his neighbor to sit’ (Zech. [3:]10) with him under the tree of life. The curing quality of the leaves
of the tree will heal all wounds—racial, ethnic, tribal, or linguistic—that have torn and divided humanity for ages.”—Ranko Stefanovic, Revelation of Jesus Christ: Commentary on the Book of Revelation, p. 593.

I try to be polite and not attribute left wing talking points to your character, yet you continue to outright lie about me. I do NOT praise those people, I do NOT support sanctuary cities, they are NOT my people. I am left of center in most of my beliefs, but I am no where near as extreme as you are a right wing extremist. Just like your savior, Donald Trump, you lie without the slightest compunction.

YOU are discussing politics on this thread. I will continue to politely address those political posts with facts that refute your outrageous claims. You post Alex Jones' like diatribes, I try to post facts. I am trying to have a civil discussion based on known facts.

Please tell me, did YOU support Obama as our duly elected President? Do you STILL believe he was not born in this country and do you still believe he is a Muslim that tried to enact Sharia law in this country, rewrite the second amendment and take away our guns, giving them to the UN?

We have, therefore, the same authority for Purgatory as we have for Sunday."

Life on the New Earth
Read Isaiah 35:4–10 and 65:21–25. How different will life then be from what we experience now?
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________
Several times in the book of Isaiah we read of something new: “new things” (42:9, 48:6), “a new song” (42:10), “a new thing” (43:19), “a new name” (62:2). What is new in chapter 65 is a new order of things. There is peace and harmony among all God’s creatures. The covenant curses on the land for disobedience and rebellion (see Lev. 26:14–17, Deut. 28:30) will be canceled forever, because sin is no more. Instead, there will be an abundance of blessings, houses to live in, and food to enjoy.

What will life be like in such a beautiful place? Some people wonder if we will be able to recognize our friends and family, after our bod- ies receive immortality and are fully restored into God’s image. After Christ’s resurrection, His disciples were able to recognize Him. Mary recognized His voice (John 20:11–16). Thomas recognized Jesus’ physi- cal appearance (John 20:27, 28). The two disciples of Emmaus recog- nized His mannerisms at the dinner table (Luke 24:30, 31, 35). So, if our bodies are to be similar to Jesus’ resurrected body, we certainly will be able to recognize each other, and we can look forward to an eternity of restored relationships. We safely can assume that we will continue our relationships with those we know and love and who are there with us.

“There the redeemed shall know, even as also they are known. The loves and sympathies which God Himself has planted in the soul shall there find truest and sweetest exercise. The pure communion with holy beings, the harmonious social life with the blessed angels and with the faithful ones of all ages who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb, the sacred ties that bind together ‘the whole family in heaven and earth’ (Ephesians 3:15)—these help to constitute the happiness of the redeemed.”—Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 677.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. . . . For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen a
re temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Cor. 4:16–18, NKJV). How can we in a world that’s so temporal, so fleeting, learn to reach out and grasp the unseen and eternal?

I like to deal in facts, you can like or not like anyone, but is it a "gut feeling" or do you base it on known provable facts? I am NOT "all for everyone against President Trump", that is just you trying to make claims against me. You keep trying to claim I support Clinton, Pelosi, Schumer, Reid, Holder, etc., etc., I don't! I have solid reasons to not trust or like Trump, it isn't just that fact that I think he is a rude, crude, bloviating buffoon.

Please tell me, did YOU support Obama as our duly elected President? What do you find appealing about Trump? Why are you "all for" Trump?

During Obama's term, the Republicans became known as the "party of no" because they did everything in their power to obstruct and eliminate anything and everything Obama. Mitch McConnell went to the absolute extreme by refusing to even hold a hearing for a SCOTUS nominee for almost an entire year! These are some of the known, provable facts that I base my opinion on.

Good Morning. Today is the preparation, the sabbath is drawing on.

Known facts.....the 8 years of obama, the clinton benghazi debacle, the clinton emails and private server, the eric holder fast and furious, the lois learner, the tarmac meeting,

harry reid and schumer and their obstructionism of a duly elected President, susan rice and her lies on national TV protecting obama and obamas :, "if you like your dr you can keep your dr, the obama ACA required mandate, the IRS targeting conservative groups, the worldwide apologizes for America by the first black president.

The cutting of military and the many military people leaving the military because of obama , the open borders, the sanctuary cities, the overreach of the EPA, the businesses leaving America, the odious trade deals and if I were smarter I could come up with many more effects of the far left liberal socialists coming out of harvard, yale and the other liberal colleges.

Tange, would you just go away!!!!!! I am no longer interested in wasting my time talking to you.

No more replies from me to your remarks.......

You are repeating yourself, all while totally ignoring a couple simple questions.

Please tell me, did YOU support Obama as our duly elected President? What do you find appealing about Trump? Why are you "all for" Trump? You condemn me for not supporting Trump, yet you never showed any respect for Obama, a twice duly elected POTUS!

Good Morning. Today is the holy sabbath day,,,,,,the Lords' Day.

Tange, who won't leave......I did not call him names....I abhorred him, the only thing he did well was smile and speak and go up and down stairs.
I do not remember calling obama hussien names......with a name like his in America, his name was plenty enough!!!

You call people names, you support the sanctuary cities, the people who kill the police.

you support the stupid decisions of the far left liberals and their socialists ideas. "the government will take care of you".......

The Gospel From Patmos Sabbath afternoon
Read for This Week’s Study: Rev. 1:1–8; John 14:1–3; Deut. 29:29; John 14:29; Rom. 1:7; Phil. 3:20; Dan. 7:13, 14.
Memory Text: “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near” (Revelation 1:3, NKJV).

The prophecies of Revelation were revealed in vision to the apostle John more than nineteen centuries ago during his exile on a small rocky island known as Patmos in the Aegean Sea (Rev. 1:9). Revelation 1:3 pronounces a blessing on those who read the book and hear and obey the teachings (compare Luke 6:47, 48). This verse refers to the congregation assembled in the church to hear the messages. However, they are blessed not only because they read or listen, but also because they obey the words of the book (see Rev. 22:7).

The prophecies of Revelation are an expression of God’s care for His people. They point us to the shortness and fragility of this life, to salvation in Jesus and His work as our heavenly High Priest and King, and to our calling to spread the gospel.

Biblical prophecies are like a lamp shining in a dark place (2 Pet. 1:19). They are intended to provide guidance for our life today and hope for our future.

We will need this prophetic guide until the coming of Christ and the establishment of God’s everlasting kingdom.

A "name caller"?! I don't call people names. I don't "cuss", I have no idea what you are thinking. I certainly don't question your patriotism, I have never claimed you hate America, I have never supported "sanctuary cities" or "people that kill the police", I have NEVER supported what you have continued to falsely accused me of, repeatedly, day after day.

Paulwhut, you "abhorred" Obama before he was even elected, but why? Obviously, you can't get past his name, since you have continually twisted and mocked his name from the beginning. Even though Obama was, overwhelmingly, elected by the vote of The People, TWICE, by a TEN MILLION vote margin, you have always insulted and put him down. You seem to have based your hatred on the name his parents gave him, as if he had any choice.

I have specific reasons for not supporting Trump, and it has nothing to do with his name.

Trump has five children with three different women; one of them born a bastard child. Trump was still married to his first wife when his fourth child was born to his mistress. If the man cannot be trusted as a husband, how can anyone trust him with the nuclear codes and the safety of the nation?

Trump lies, all the time about anything and everything. What he says depends on who he is talking to at the moment, this is verifiable with various recorded media. He is like a cheap used car salesman that will say just about anything in the moment, hoping for a sucker and a steal.

Trump is a horrible businessman! He has a dozen or more total failures like Trump Airlines, Trump University, Trump casinos, Trump: The Game, Trump Mortgage, Trump magazine, Trump steaks, Trump travel agency and more. Trump cannot be trusted or faithful in his personal life or in his business life.

Trump has always been rude and crude in his language and his thinking. You claim,"people who cuss.....they have no intellect. Their vocabulary is so limited they can not express themselves otherwise." In that case alone, why on earth would you ever think Trump is intelligent?! Why would you vote for a rude, crude, ignorant, adulterous con man?

Good Morning. Today is the first workday of the week following the sabbath.

The Jesuits are strong and working worldwide and making much progress.

be it government or media or institutions or businesses, they are there, running the show.

The only course we can safely pursue is to immerse ourselves in Scripture.

The Bible is the Stronghold of knowledge and reason, and the answers are there.

The protestant churches in the world are in deep trouble......no consistency and no answers.

The only church that has the answers, and that is because they know the Bible, is the Seventh Day Adventist church.

Revelation 12:17 (KJV)
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

And satan is very determined to ruin this church also, but through it all, the church will stand.

Disciples of Christ

Todays' SS lesson: December 30
The Title of the Book
Read Revelation 1:1, 2. What is the significance of the full title of the book? What does the title teach us in terms of whom the book is really about?
____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________
Revelation 1:1 states the title of the book as “The Revelation of Jesus Christ.” The word “revelation” comes from the Greek word apo- kalupsis (apocalypse), which means “uncovering” or “unveiling.” The Apocalypse is an unveiling of Jesus Christ; it is both from Jesus and about Him. While it came from God through Jesus Christ (see Rev. 22:16), the book testifies that Jesus also is the focus of its contents. The Apocalypse is His self-revelation to His people and an expression of His care for them.

Jesus is the central figure of Revelation. The book begins with Him (Rev. 1:5–8) and concludes with Him (Rev. 22:12–16). “Let Daniel speak, let the Revelation speak, and tell what is truth. But whatever phase of the subject is presented, uplift Jesus as the center of all hope, ‘the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright and morning Star.’ ”—Ellen G. White, Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, p. 118.

Also, the Jesus of the Apocalypse is the Jesus of the four Gospels. Revelation continues the description of Jesus and His work of salvation on behalf of His people as first depicted in the Gospels. The book of Revelation focuses on different aspects of His existence and ministry. Essentially, it begins where the Gospels end, with Jesus’ resurrection and ascension into heaven.

Together with the Epistle to the Hebrews, Revelation emphasizes Jesus’ heavenly ministry. It shows that, after His ascension, Jesus was inaugurated into His royal and priestly ministry in the heavenly sanctuary. Without Revelation or Hebrews, our knowledge of Christ’s high-priestly ministry in heaven in behalf of His people would be very limited. And yet, besides Hebrews, the book of Revelation provides us with a unique look into the ministry of Jesus Christ in our behalf.

Read John 14:1–3. How does the very broad promise here help us better understand what Jesus is doing for us in heaven right now? What hope can we draw from this wonderful promise?

Good Morning. Today is the second workday of the week.

All around my new residence is Baptist churches.....and the names are varied.

"Regular" Baptist, "primitive" Baptist, "Cedar Creek" Baptist...even a Methodist church here and there.

The closest SDA church is 37 miles down the road.......

All these churches, and there are many, all have King James Bibles in them.....and they church on first day of the week.

The first day of the week is found 9 times in the entire Bible.....8 times in the NT.

The sabbath is found 55 times in just the NT.......

also, the sabbath of the Bible is pronounced in the Fourth Commandment........

Do you know where the Ten Commandments are listed?

They should be listed on the fleshy tables of your heart.

2 Corinthians 3:3 (KJV) 3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

======================================================================

Dwight L. Moody

6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

The Purpose of the Book
Revelation 1:1 also tells us that the purpose of the book is to show future events, starting from the time when the book itself was written. Anyone familiar with Revelation will notice that the prediction of events—whether those already fulfilled (at least from our perspective today) or those events still future (again, from our perspective today)— occupies most of the book’s content.

The primary purpose of biblical prophecies is to assure us that no matter what the future brings, God is in control. Revelation does just that: it assures us that Jesus Christ is with His people throughout this world’s history and its alarming final events.

Consequently, Revelation’s prophecies have two practical purposes: to teach us how to live today and to prepare us for the future.

Read Deuteronomy 29:29. How does this text help us understand why some things are not revealed to us? According to this text, what is the purpose of the things that are revealed to us? That is, why are we told them? See also Rev. 22:7.

Revelation’s end-time prophecies are not revealed to satisfy our obsessive curiosity about the future. The book reveals only those aspects of the future important for us to know. They are disclosed to impress upon us the seriousness of what will happen so that we will realize our dependence on God and, in that dependence, obey Him.

For centuries, speculation—and even more sensationalism—has accompanied so much of the teaching regarding end-time events. Fortunes have been made by those who, predicting the immediate end, have scared people into giving money to their ministry because, well, the end was near. Each time, though, the end didn’t come, and people were left disillusioned and discouraged. As with all of the good things God has given us, prophecy can be misused, and misinterpreted, as well.

Read John 14:29. What crucially important principle for the purpose of prophecy can we find here in this verse?

"And all the world wondered after the beast." Rev 13:3 last part.
