Here is a curious passage on this subject. Jesus is confronting the Jews about their killing of the prophets.
There is no OT reference for the prophecy Jesus quotes. "God in his wisdom said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute." - vs 49 Is this then a NT prophecy? Seems so. Jesus predicting his own death.
Luke 11:47-51 “Woe to you, because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your forefathers who killed them. 48 So you testify that you approve of what your forefathers did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs. 49 Because of this, God in his wisdom said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’ 50 Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all.
Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them. - Galatians 4:17

Here the Apostle Paul further confirms this new work, "not made known to men in other generations".
Ephesians 3:4-6 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
