.Rick Scott touts Everglades investments from bill he opposed.Rick Scott said he was "proud" to help secure new Everglades investments. He neglected to mention that he opposed the bill that provided the funds.House Republicans have been tripping over one another in recent weeks, trying to claim credit for infrastructure investments from a law they tried to kill. In fact, the list keeps growing: NBC News flagged a related example this morning, noting Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas celebrating an ecosystem restoration plan in his district that's backed by funds from a bill he opposed.
But it now appears the phenomenon is not limited to the House. HuffPost reported late yesterday:
Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) on Tuesday became the latest Republican lawmaker to seek credit for the bipartisan infrastructure overhaul he opposed in Congress. After joining U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials for a tour of the Herbert Hoover Dike, which stands to benefit from investments in the law dedicated to making the Everglades more resilient against climate change, Scott said he was "proud" to help secure "an unprecedented $1 billion for Everglades restoration, the largest single amount ever allocated by the federal government."
What Scott didn't mention is that the unprecedented resources for Everglades restoration came by way of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed into law by President Joe Biden.
Scott, in particular, complained that Republican donors were "furious" with the GOP senators who had the audacity to support the popular and effective legislation last summer.

.Fox viewers are less likely to believe lies after being paid to watch CNN for 30 days: study.A groundbreaking new study paid viewers of the Fox News Network to watch CNN for 30 days. What they found is that the viewers ultimately became more skeptical and less likely to buy into fake news. The early impacts, after just three days, showed that the viewers were already starting to change.
The findings of the study, written by David E. Brockman and Joshua L. Kalla, explained that the experiment used content analysis comparing the two networks during Sept. 2020.
"During this period, the researchers explained that "CNN provided extensive coverage of COVID-19, which included information about the severity of the COVID-19 crisis and poor aspects of Trump's performance handling COVID-19. Fox News covered COVID-19 much less," said the study. The coverage of COVID-19 it did offer provided little of the information CNN did, instead giving viewers information about why the virus was not a serious threat. On the other hand Fox News extensively but highly selectively covered racial issues, and its coverage of these issues provided extensive information about Biden and other Democrats' supposed positions on them and about outbreaks of violence at protests for racial justice in American cities. CNN provided little information about either. The networks both covered the issue of voting by mail, but again dramatically different information about it (in addition to offering different frames)."
"It's far from obvious," they surmised, that viewing different networks would affect the beliefs and attitudes of the viewer. In fact, It wasn't so much that viewers were tuning in because they already felt that way, their attitudes were actually being formed from the Fox network.
The Fox viewers were nearly all very conservative and strong Republicans, the study explained. "Of 763 qualifying participants, we then randomized 40 percent to treatment group. To change the slant of their media diet, we offered treatment group participants $15 per hour to watch 7 hours of CNN per week, during Sept. 2020, prioritizing the hours at which participants indicated they typically watched Fox News."
At the three-day mark, the viewers took a survey. "We found large effects of watching CNN instead of Fox News on participants' factual perceptions of current events (i.e., beliefs) and knowledge about the 2020 presidential candidates' positions," they found. They discovered changes in attitudes about Donald Trump and Republicans as well as a large effect on their opinions about COVID.
The viewers also evolved to believe that if Donald Trump made a mistake, "Fox News would not cover it—i.e., that Fox News engages in partisan coverage filtering."
The findings might suggest that the most cost-effective way for Democrats to win elections is to start running their own infomercials or commercials on the Fox networks.
While the report is 126 pages long, the first five explain the full findings.

How can one boot up Basic and see the Forum section with the forum entries having the first line to the latest post?
The forum section lists the latest post of a person by giving the first line of the topic.
Reading a post indicates bringing up the thread.......I Only bring up a thread of yours to make a response.
You murky, are consistent just as I am consistent. We both are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
I am a conservative you are a liberal. We disagree on most things and so I avoid saying anything to you.
These last 8 years have shown Basic the true colors of each of us.

schemes of the Democrats. It is because the pope’s Jesuits have thoroughly
infiltrated the Republican party as well as the Democratic party. Many wonder why
the news media lie so much to support and protect the Democrats. It is because the
pope’s Jesuits have thoroughly infiltrated the news media. The news media and
schools and colleges, with their lies and propaganda, have so conditioned the
people of the country that they are unable to recognize what has been done to them.
Victory for the Jesuits seems very near. The Jesuits are like a cancer that has
pervaded nearly every fiber of the society of the United States. We are being
defeated by the enemy within.
For many years the Jesuits have prevented the United States from developing
additional sources of energy within its own territory. Exploiting the vast oilfields on
the Alaskan north slope, that probably contain more oil than the entire middle east,
is forbidden. New nuclear power plants, the safest source of electric energy ever
discovered, are not permitted. There is no end to the lies people have been made to
believe about Nuclear energy. The environment is used as the club to subdue the
people of the country into going along with this idiocy. Modern technology is able to
develop these sources of power without any damage to the environment. France
gets 80% of its power from nuclear power plants without any problems. Needless to
say, without sufficient energy, the United States will not be able to defend itself. All
the papacy has to do is cut off the oil supply from the middle east.
The United States is now starting to feel the pinch of the energy shortage the Jesuits
have created. People have experienced blackouts over large areas as power is shut
off to stay within the limits of generating capacity. Today, instead of constructing
additional nuclear power plants, some of these plants are being dismantled! Will the
people of the United States be able to wake up in time to prevent the coming
national tragedy?
Not only in the United States is this treachery being perpetrated by the papacy, but
they are secretly at work all over the world to subvert all the nations of the world.

.Statement by President Biden on the April Jobs Report.Today, we learned that the economy created 428,000 jobs in April – bringing the total number of jobs created since I took office to 8.3 million: record setting job creation in my first 15 months in office. Our plans and policies have produced the strongest job creation economy in modern times. The unemployment rate now stands at 3.6% —the fastest decline in unemployment to start a President’s term ever recorded. There have been only 3 months in the last 50 years where the unemployment rate in America is lower than it is now. This is a direct result of the American Rescue Plan, our COVID vaccination program, and my plan to grow our economy from the bottom up and middle out. When I took office, there were around 20 million people relying on unemployment benefits to feed their families; today, that number is around 1 million – the lowest since 1970. We are building an economy that values the dignity of work.
There’s no question that inflation and high prices are a challenge for families across the country, and fighting inflation is a top priority for me. The continued strength of our job market and the savings that families have built up over the last year means that our economy faces the challenges of COVID-19, Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and global inflation from a position of strength. There’s more work to do. .GOP CONGRESSWOMAN SAYS SHE LOVES HER 5 GRANDCHILDREN SO MUCH THAT SHE’D SHOOT THEM IF NECESSARY.Debbie Lesko is the GOP congresswoman from Arizona’s 8th Congressional District, and she is outraged that Democrats are trying to pass more common sense gun control that would keep weapons out of the hands of those who have been deemed dangerous to others.
During floor debate on HR 2377, the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2022, Lesko proudly declared that she loves her five grandchildren so much that she would gladly shoot them dead if necessary.
HR 2377, it should be noted, is far from being a radical piece of legislation, as the White House explained when it urged action on the legislation.
But to hear Rep. Lesko tell it, the bill would prevent her from being able to shoot her grandchildren:
“I rise in opposition to HR 2377. I have five grandchildren. I would do anything, anything to protect my five grandchildren, including, as a last resort, shooting them if I had to, to protect the lives of my grandchildren.”
Be sure and read that carefully. She would shoot her grandchildren to protect the lives of her grandchildren. How exactly does that work? .‘A modern-day villain’: Joe Manchin condemned for killing US climate action.Joe Manchin’s decision to kill off sweeping US climate legislation has been called “nothing short of a death sentence” for younger people and a livable climate on Earth, amid an outpouring of anger and despair from activists, scientists and even many of the US Senator’s Democratic colleagues.
Manchin, the centrist West Virginia senator who has become a millionaire through his founding of a coal-trading company in his home state, dealt a crushing political blow to Joe Biden’s agenda on Thursday night when he made clear he would not support any spending to curb the climate crisis in a proposed bill.
“Given the US’s role as the leading all-time carbon polluter, it is difficult to see global action on climate without US leadership,” said Michael Mann, a climate scientist at Penn State University, who called Manchin “a modern-day villain, who drives a Maserati, lives on a yacht, courtesy of the coal industry, and is willing to see the world burn as long as it benefits his near-term investment portfolio”.
Manchin, who has received more money in political donations from the fossil fuel industry than any sitting senator, sank the broader Build Back Better legislation last year and now has seemingly halted Democratic efforts to revive the climate measures in a new bill. Analysts say without any new bill, the US will fall around halfway short of its emissions-cutting target.
“Senator Joe Manchin has written his legacy: blocking our best shot at a transition to affordable, American clean energy and a livable planet,” said Jamal Raad, executive director of campaign group Evergreen Action. “Senator Manchin has betrayed the American public and the mandate given to the Democratic senate to act on climate.”

.CNN acknowledged Biden’s long success list. Is MSM finally bucking the Right-Wing narrative?.The Mainstream Media (MSM) have been toeing the Right Wing narrative on Prez Biden for some time. It is refreshing to see some truthful reporting.
The MSM could not continue the Republican Right-Wing narrative of a failed President Joe Biden. Let me be clear, I wanted much more progressive policies passed than we got. Often Biden’s hands were tied, but I believe he could have used the bully pulpit more effectively against Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. But I have always believed he was willing to govern by the policies that got him elected. But having Manchin and Sinema as a backstop gave him the choice to govern from his soul.
The above said, his successes, however tempered, supersede most presidents before him. CNN enumerated a few and realized their objective reputation was in danger. Well, my Daily Kòs friend Frank Vyan Walton created a more comprehensive list.

.Liz Cheney Schools Marjorie Taylor Greene With Soviet History Lesson: ‘Now You Stand With Putin Against Freedom’.Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) took her fellow Republican lawmaker, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), to task on Friday for pushing an isolationist foreign policy after vowing during a Thursday Trump rally in Iowa to cut off U.S. funding to help Ukraine defend itself from the ongoing Russian invasion of the country.
The exchange began with Cheney tweeting a section from Greene’s bombastic speech at the Trump rally, in which Greene said, “Under Republicans, not another penny will go to Ukraine. Our country comes first.”
Cheney captioned Greene’s remark, which went viral online, noting, “This is exactly what Putin wants. If we’d had Republicans like this in the 1980s, we would have lost the Cold War.”

December 4, 2022 — The Lincoln Project releases the following statement condemning Donald Trump’s call for the ‘termination of all rules…even those found in the Constitution’ and that he be illegally made President:
“After leading the violent January 6th, 2021 insurrection against the peaceful transfer of power, Trump’s statement is another grim reminder of his desire to destroy the Constitution, overthrow the rule of law, and ignore our democratic traditions to attain absolute power.
