Good Morning. Today is the preparation, the sabbath is drawing on.
Genesis 4:7 (KJV) 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Genesis 26:5 (KJV) 5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
Isaiah 56:1-2 (KJV) 1 Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed. 2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
Isaiah 58:13-14 (KJV) 13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
Thus saith the Lord; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; 22 Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers. 23 But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction (Jeremiah 17:21-23 KJV)
The Bible holy day is the Seventh Day.
Genesis 2: 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Exodus 20: 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
Isaiah 58: 13 ¶If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

The Sabbath
Chapter 96.
The Sabbath in the New Testament
1. ACCORDING to the New Testament, what day immediately precedes the first day of the week? "In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week." Matt. 28:1.
NOTE.-According to the New Testament, therefore, the Sabbath had passed when the first day of the week began.
2. After the crucifixion, what day was kept by the women who followed Jesus? "And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment." Luke 23:56.
3. What day is the Sabbath, "according to the commandment"? "But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God." Ex. 20:10.
4. What was Christ's custom respecting the Sabbath? "And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read." Luke 4:16.
5. In what instruction to His disciples did Christ recognize the existence of the Sabbath long after His ascension? "But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day." Matt. 24:20.
NOTE.-The destruction of Jerusalem under Titus occurred in the spring and summer of 70 A.D. The flight of the Christians took place three and one-half years earlier, or late in October, 66 A. D., following the arrival and sudden withdrawal of Cestius and his army. See readings in Chapter 68. of this book.
6. On what day did the Jews meet for worship? "Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath day." Acts 15:21.
7. On what day did Paul and Barnabas preach at Antioch? "They came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day." Acts 13:14.
8. When did the Gentiles request that Paul should repeat the sermon he had preached at Antioch on the Sabbath? "And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath." Verse 42.
9. On what day did Paul and his companions preach to the devout women at Philippi? "And on the Sabbath we went out of the city by a riverside, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither." Acts 16:13.
10. What was Paul's manner respecting the Sabbath? "They came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: and Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures." Acts 17:1,2.
NOTE.-It was Paul's manner, as it was Christ's custom (Luke 4:16), to attend religious services on the Sabbath.
11. How did the apostle spend the working days of the week when at Corinth? "After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth; and found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; . . . and because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tent-makers." Acts 18:1-3. See Eze. 46:1.
12. What did he do on the Sabbath days? "And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks." Acts 18:4.
13. How long did he continue this work there? "And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them." Verse 11.
NOTE.-Here, then, were seventy-eight Sabbaths on which Paul preached in one city. The record further says that he worked at his trade, and we may justly infer that Paul worked at tent-making just as many Sundays as he preached Sabbaths. If to these seventy-eight Sabbaths we add the three he spent at Thessalonica, the one at Philippi, and the two at Antioch, we have a record of eighty-four Sabbaths on which the apostle held religious services, while, so far as the record shows, he held only one meeting on the first day of the week, and that a night meeting, immediately following the Sabbath. See Acts 20. Evidently Sunday was not the Sabbath in Paul's day.
14. On what day was John in the Spirit? "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day." Rev. 1:10.
15. Who is Lord of the Sabbath? "The Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath." Mark 2:28.
16. What, through the prophet Isaiah, does the Lord call the Sabbath? "If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on My holy day." Isa. 58:13.
17. Why does the Lord call the Sabbath His day? "For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it." Ex.20:11.
18. Through whom did God create the world? "God. . . hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, . . . by whom also He made the worlds." Heb. 1:1,2.
NOTES.-From beginning to end, the Bible recognizes but one weekly Sabbath,- the day upon which God rested in the beginning; which was made known to Israel at Sinai (Neh. 9:13,14); was observed by Christ and His apostles; and is to be kept by the redeemed in the world to come. Isa. 66:22,23.
The terms Sabbath, Sabbaths, and Sabbath days occur sixty times in the New Testament, and in every case but one refer to the seventh day. In Col. 2:16,17, reference is made to the annual sabbaths connected with the three annual feasts observed by Israel before the first advent of Christ.
The first day of the week is mentioned but eight times in the New Testament, six of which are found in the four Gospels, and refer to the day on which Christ arose from the dead. See Matt. 28:1; Mark 16:2,9; Luke 24:1; John 20:1,19. The other two (Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:2) refer to the only religious meeting held on the first day of the week after the ascension, in apostolic times, recorded in the New Testament and to a systematic accounting and laying by in store at home on that day for the poor saints in Judea and Jerusalem.
It is evident, therefore, that the Sabbath of the New Testament is the same as the Sabbath of the Old Testament, and that there is nothing in the New Testament setting aside the seventh-day Sabbath, and putting the first day of the week in its place.

Charles Spurgeon Jesus did not come to change the law, but He came to explain it. (Mt 5:17-20) and that very fact shows that it remains, for there is no need to explain that which is abrogated. Assuredly there was no abrogation of law.
It was a wonderful exhibition of its’ far reaching sovereignty and of its searching character. Once more, that the Master did not come to alter the law is clear, because after having embodied it in His life He willingly gave Himself to bear its penalty, though He had never broken it, bearing the penalty for us, even as it is written, “ “Christ hath redeem us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us.”
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6 KJV). But because the law asked only what it ought to ask…namely perfect obedience and exacted of the transgressor only what it ought to exact, namely, death, as the penalty for sin, death under divine wrath, therefore the Saviour went to the tree, and there bore our sins, and purged them once for all. (Charles Spurgeon, Perpetuity of the Law of God. pp 4-7)
Dwight L. Moody: Now man may cavil as much as they like about other parts of the Bible, but I have never met an honest man that found fault with the Ten Commandments. Infidels may mock the Lawgiver and reject Him who has delivered us from the curse of the law, but they can’t help admitting that the commandments are right…they are for all nations and will remain the commandments of God through the centuries…The people must be made to understand that the TC are still binding, and that there is a penalty attached to their violation….Jesus never condemned the law and the prophets, but He did condemn those who did not obey them (See Mat 5:17-20) Dwight L. Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Friday.....March 3 Further Thought: In the conquest of Jericho, Achan was not the only man carrying silver and gold back to the camp of Israel. Joshua had told the men to bring back the silver and gold and vessels of brass and iron to the treasury of the house of God (Josh. 6:19, 24). Everything else was to be burned. Achan, however, was the only man to keep something for himself. “Of the millions of Israel there was but one man who, in that solemn hour of triumph and of judgment, had dared to transgress the command of God. Achan’s covetousness was excited by the sight of that costly robe of Shinar; even when it had brought him face to face with death he called it ‘a goodly Babylonish garment.’ One sin had led to another, and he appropriated the gold and silver devoted to the treasury of the Lord—he robbed God of the first fruits of the land of Canaan.”—Ellen G. White, Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 496.
In Paul’s list of signs of the last days, the first two items involve our attitude toward money and possessions. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money [covetous]” (2 Tim. 3:1, 2, NKJV). Self ishness and love of money are significant descriptions of humanity in the last days—our day.
Discussion Questions:
1. Read 1 Timothy 6:6–10: “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (NKJV). In class, talk about examples of those who, because of the love of money, have “pierced themselves [and others] through with many sorrows.” There are lots of examples, aren’t there? How can we find the right balance, knowing that we need money to get by but not falling into the trap Paul warns about here?
2. What are other things, besides money, that we can covet? Ì What is the difference between a legitimate desire for some- thing and covetousness? When might a legitimate desire for some- thing turn into covetousness?
Inside Story Boldly Sharing Jesus By AnDrew Mcchesney
On an Easter Sunday, retired pastor Simo Vehkavuori stood in a packed train traveling home to the capital, Helsinki, from evangelistic meetings that he had conducted in central Finland. A 24-year-old university student boarded the train and looked around for a seat.
“Even though the train looks full, why don’t you walk through the cars and see whether you can find an empty seat?” Simo said to her.
She returned, smiling. “I found two free seats,” she said. “One for me and one for you. Come with me!” The two sat opposite each other. “Excuse me, but do you mind if I ask you how you feel about religion?” Simo asked.
“I’m quite far from spiritual things right now,” she said.
“Would you like to know how I became a believer?” Simo asked.
She did, and Simo told her. As the train approached Helsinki, he said,
“Would you mind if I remembered you in my prayers?”
The student burst into tears. The tears flowed down her cheeks, and she said, loudly, “That would be really great! Please do that.”
Before parting ways, Simo said something that he often tells new friends: “May you be encouraged to know that, even though you are very busy, you can serve a risen Jesus Christ, the One who atoned for our sins on the cross of Calvary. And that’s not all. This same Jesus has promised to come back and will take us to a heavenly home where eternity will start. So, dear friend, let us stay on the heaven-bound journey under the Father’s loving hand until we reach our destination. May the Lord bless you through His grace.”
On another train trip, Simo was surprised when a woman greeted him and even shook his hand as he boarded. “Hello, I’m a retired Seventh-day Adventist pastor,” he replied. “That’s interesting,” the woman said. “I have never heard about Adventists. I want to hear all about your church on this 500-kilometer [300-mile] trip. Here were two empty seats. Let’s sit together.”
Simo spoke about the Adventist Church for the whole trip. As they left the train, a man walked up behind them. “Thank you for the interesting train ride,” he said, eagerly grabbing Simo’s hand with both of his hands. “Thank you for being so brave to share God so loudly that all of us could hear.”
At 84, Simo seeks divine appointments on every train. “The older I get, the bolder I get in sharing Jesus,” he said.

Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats. It is because the pope’s Jesuits have thoroughly infiltrated the Republican party as well as the Democratic party. Many wonder why the news media lie so much to support and protect the Democrats. It is because the pope’s Jesuits have thoroughly infiltrated the news media. The news media and schools and colleges, with their lies and propaganda, have so conditioned the people of the country that they are unable to recognize what has been done to them. Victory for the Jesuits seems very near. The Jesuits are like a cancer that has pervaded nearly every fiber of the society of the United States. We are being defeated by the enemy within.
For many years the Jesuits have prevented the United States from developing additional sources of energy within its own territory. Exploiting the vast oilfields on the Alaskan north slope, that probably contain more oil than the entire middle east, is forbidden. New nuclear power plants, the safest source of electric energy ever discovered, are not permitted. There is no end to the lies people have been made to believe about Nuclear energy. The environment is used as the club to subdue the people of the country into going along with this idiocy. Modern technology is able to develop these sources of power without any damage to the environment. France gets 80% of its power from nuclear power plants without any problems. Needless to say, without sufficient energy, the United States will not be able to defend itself. All the papacy has to do is cut off the oil supply from the middle east.
The United States is now starting to feel the pinch of the energy shortage the Jesuits have created. People have experienced blackouts over large areas as power is shut off to stay within the limits of generating capacity. Today, instead of constructing additional nuclear power plants, some of these plants are being dismantled! Will the people of the United States be able to wake up in time to prevent the coming national tragedy?
Not only in the United States is this treachery being perpetrated by the papacy, but they are secretly at work all over the world to subvert all the nations of the world.

Envy, Jealousy, and Hatred
1. WHAT does Solomon say of envy? "Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?" Prov. 27:4.
2. What is said of jealousy? "Jealousy is cruel as the grave." Song of Solomon 8:6.
3. What is said of one who hates his brother? "Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer." 1 John 3:15.
4. What did envy lead the chief priests to do with Christ? "For he [Pilate] knew that the chief priests had delivered Him [to be crucified] for envy." Mark 15:10.
5. What did it lead the Jews to do in Paul's day? "But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming." Acts 13:45.
6. What exists where envy and strife are? "For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work." James 3:16.
7. Why should the heart be closely watched? "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." Prov. 4:23.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Medieval Scholastic philosophers and theologians, such as Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Bonaventure, held that all the commandments are a part of the natural law and are therefore knowable to all thinking people. They maintained that God revealed the commandments to Moses to remind humankind of its obligations, easily forgotten because of original sin.
Actually, these scholars were echoing a similar idea expressed by early Fathers of the Church, such as Tertullian and Augustine, that the commandments had already been engraved on the human heart before they were written on the tablets of stone.
Parallels to the Decalogue are found in the laws of other ancient peoples. In Egyptian religion, for example, the observance of certain precepts (prohibitions against theft, murder, and injustice) was necessary for entrance into the shrine of Osiris, god and judge of the dead. Biblical scholars feel, however, that the Ten Commandments differ from the moral codes of other ancient religious systems in their explicit monotheism, their doctrine of God's awesome majesty and boundless goodness, and their extension of moral obligation to the most intimate and hidden desires of the human heart.

Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?
A. Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her;—she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority.
A Doctrinal Catechism by the Rev. Stephen Keenan, p. 174
“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act,… (A quotation from a letter written in November, 1895, by Mr. H. F. Thomas, chancellor to Carkinal Gibbons, replying to an inquiry as to whether the Catholic Church claims to have changed the Sabbath.)
WHO CHANGED THE
SABBATH SATURDAY TO SUNDAY? Roman Catholic: No such law in the Bible "Nowhere in the bible do we find that Jesus or the apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is, the Seventh day of the week, Saturday. Today, all Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the [Roman] church outside the Bible." Catholic Virginian, Oct. 3, 1947
"You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctified." James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of Our Fathers (1917 ed.), pp.72,73
"If protestants would follow the Bible, they should worship God on the Sabbath Day, that is Saturday. In keeping Sunday they are following a law of the Catholic Church." Albert Smith, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, replying for the cardinal in a letter of Feb. 10, 1920.
"Have you not any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?"
"Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her, she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the Seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority" Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism 3rd ed. p. 174
How prove you that the Church hath power to command feasts and holydays?
By the very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday, which Protestants allow of; and therefore they fondly contradict themselves, by keeping Sunday strictly, and breaking most other feasts commanded by the same Church." Henry Tuberville, An Abridgment of the Christian Doctrine (1833 approbation), p.58 (Same statement in Manual of Christian Doctrine, ed. by Daniel Ferris [1916 ed.], p.67)
"The Catholic Church,... by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.

As we near the end of our earning years, our financial focus turns toward preserving our assets in anticipation of the end of life. The transition from working to retirement can be a very traumatic experience. In terms of our finances, what is the best way to proceed?
As people get older, they almost naturally begin to worry about the future. The most common fears are: dying too soon (before the family is taken care of); living too long (outliving one’s assets or savings) catastrophic illness (all one’s resources could go at one time); or mental and/or physical disability (who will take care of me?.
When commenting on these fears, Ellen G. White wrote: “All these fears originate with Satan. . . . If they would take the position which God would have them, their last days might be their best and happiest. . . . They should lay aside anxiety and burdens, and occupy their time as happily as they can, and be ripening up for heaven.” —Testimonies for the Church, vol. 1, p. 424.

For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit. But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.
Hebrews 4:1-12 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Todays' Sabbath School lesson: sunday.......March 5 The Rich Fool Read Luke 12:16–21. What’s the relevant message to us here? What strong rebuke did the Lord give to the foolish man, and what should that say to us regarding our attitude toward what we own? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ Though the message is broader than this, one could argue that this was a story Jesus told about what not to do in retirement. Accordingly, if a person is quitting work to spend his accumulated assets on himself, he should beware and take this story to heart. The problem is not work- ing hard or getting wealth, particularly as one gets older and, perhaps, even richer. The problem is the attitude toward it. Jesus’ words—“ ‘take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry’ ” (Luke 12:19, NKJV)—express the real issue here.
“This man’s aims were no higher than those of the beasts that per- ish. He lived as if there were no God, no heaven, no future life; as if everything he possessed were his own, and he owed nothing to God or man.”—Ellen G. White, Christ’s Object Lessons, pp. 257, 258.
If we think only of ourselves and ignore the needs of others and the cause of God during this stage of life, we are following the example of the rich fool. There was no indication in Jesus’ parable that the rich man was lazy or dishonest. The problem was in how he spent what God had entrusted to him. Because we don’t know the day of our death, we should always be ready for it by living to carry out God’s will instead of pursuing a life of selfishness.
The general picture given in the Bible is that a person works and remains productive as long as he or she is able. In fact, it is interesting to note that the authors of the great prophetic books of Daniel and the Revelation were, many believe, both in their 80s when they completed their work. This was at a time when the average age at death was about 50 years. Ellen G. White published some of her best-known and best- loved books, such as The Desire of Ages, after about age 70. Age, then, as long as we are healthy, should not mean that we stop being produc- tive and, to whatever extent possible, doing some good. Jesus counseled those waiting for His second coming not just to watch but to continue working, as well (Matt. 24:44–46).
At any age and with any amount of money, how can we avoid falling into the trap that the man did here? Ask yourself, What am I living for?

Good Morning. Today is the second workday of the week.
Section 15
Admonitions and Warnings
Chapter 173.
Hypocrisy
1. OF what sin were the Pharisees guilty? "Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy." Luke 12:1.
NOTE.-Hypocrisy is a feigning to be what one is not; dissimulation; a concealment of one's real character or motives; especially, the assuming of a false appearance of virtue or religion.
2. How did the Pharisees show themselves to be hypocrites? "Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoreth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me." Matt. 15:7,8.
3. How did they make void one of God's commandments? "For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother. . . . But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; and honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition." Verses 4-6.
4. How did Christ say hypocrites pray? "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." Matt. 6:5.
Page 699
5. What does Christ call one who readily sees the faults of others, but does not see nor correct his own? "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Matt. 7:5.
6. How does a hypocrite treat his neighbor? "An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbor." "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee." Prov. 11:9; 23:7.
7. Which of the apostles was once guilty of dissimulation? "And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him [Peter]; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation." Gal. 2:13.
8. Why did Paul say he opposed Peter in this matter? "But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed." Verse 11.
9. What did David say he would not do? "I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers." Ps. 26:4.
10. How pure should be our love? "Let love be without dissimulation." Rom. 12:9.
11. What will become of the hypocrite's hope? "So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish." Job 8:13.
12. What is to be the fate of that servant who, while professing to love the Lord, shows by his actions that he is worldly, and is not looking nor longing for His coming? "The Lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for Him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matt. 24:50,51. "The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites." Isa. 33:14.
13. What is characteristic of heavenly wisdom? "The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." James 3:17.

"The Catholic Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her Founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant, claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday.
In this matter the Seventh Day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant. The Catholic Universe Bulletin, Aug. 14, 1942, p.4
"The observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the [Catholic] church." Monsignor Louis Segur, Plain Talk About the Protestantism of Today (1868), p. 213
Exodus 20: 8-11,
(8) Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. (9) Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work: (10) But the Seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: (11) For in six days the Lord made the heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the Seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Colossians 2:8 warns us to:
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
What power has claimed authority to change God's law?
The Papacy in Rome.
"The Pope is of so great authority and power that he can modify, explain, or interpret even Divine Laws...The Pope can modify divine law, since his power is not of man, but of God, and he acts as vicegerent of God upon earth." Translated from Lucius Ferraris, Prompta Bibliotheca (Ready Library), "Papa", art. 2.
What part of the law of God has the papacy thought to change?
The Fourth Commandment.
"Catholics alledge the change of the Sabbath into the Lord's day, contrary, as it seemeth, to the Decalogue; and they have no example more in their mouth than the change of the Sabbath. They will needs have to be very great, because it hath dispensed with a precept of the Decalogue." The Augsburg Confession (Lutheran), part 2, art. 7, in Philip Schaff, The Creeds of Christendom (Harper), vol. 3, p. 64.
"It [the Roman Catholic Church] reversed the Fourth Commandment by doing away with the Sabbath of God's word and instituting Sunday as a holiday." N. Summerbell, History of the Christian Church (1873), p. 415.
Does the papacy acknowledge changing the Sabbath?
It does.
The Catechismus Romanus was commanded by the Council of Trent and published by the Vatican Press, by order of Pope Pius V, in 1566. This catechism for priests says: "It pleased the church of God, that the religious celebration of the Sabbath day should be transferred to 'the Lord's day. Sunday.'" Catechism of the Council of Trent (Donovan's translation, 1867), part 3, chap. 4, p. 345. The same in slightly different wording, is in the McHugh and Callan translation (1937 ed.), p. 402.
Do Catholic authorities acknowledge that there is no command in the bible for santification of Sunday?
They do.
"You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify." James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of Our Fathers (1917 ed.), pp. 72,73.
How did Sunday observance originate?
As a voluntary celebration of the Resurrection, a custom without pretense of Divine authority.
Who first enjoined Sunday keeping by law?
Constantine the Great.
"The earliest recognition of the observance of Sunday as a legal duty is a constitution of Constantine in 321 A.D., enacting that all courts of justice, inhabitants of towns, and workshops were to be at rest on Sunday (venerabili die solis), with an exception in favor of those engaged in agricultural labor." Encyclopedia Britannica, 11th ed., art. "Sunday".
By what church council was the observance of the seventh day forbidden and Sunday observance enjoined?
The Council of Laodicea, in Asia Minor, fourth century.
What kind of worship does the Saviour call that which is not according to God's commandments?
"But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men." Matt. 15:9 Todays sabbath school lesson: Monday....March 6 You Can’t Take It With You Someone once asked famous evangelist Billy Graham what surprised him most about life, now that he was old (Graham was in his 60s at the time). Graham’s answer? “The brevity of it.”
No question, life goes by quickly. What do the following texts teach about human life here? Ps. 49:17; 1 Tim. 6:6, 7; Ps. 39:11; James 4:14; Eccles. 2:18–22. ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ Not only does life go by quickly, but also when you die, you take nothing with you, at least of the material goods that you have accu- mulated. (Character? That’s another story.) “For when he dies he shall carry nothing away” (Ps. 49:17, NKJV), which means that he or she leaves it behind for someone else to get.
Who will get it, of course, depends upon what plans are made beforehand. Though, of course, not everyone has an estate per se. Some people, particularly as they have worked through the years, have accumulated some wealth. In the end, what will happen to that wealth after you pass on is really an important question that people should consider.
For those who have possessions at the end of life, no matter how great or small they might be, estate planning can be our final act of stewardship, of carefully managing what God has blessed us with. If you don’t have an estate plan that you have created with a will or trust, the state’s or civil government’s laws can come into play (all this depends, of course, on where you live). If you die without a will, most civil jurisdictions simply pass your assets on to your relatives, whether they need them or not, whether or not they would make good use of the money, and whether or not you would have chosen to give a portion to that person. The church will get noth- ing. If that’s what you want, fine; if not, you need to work out plans beforehand.
In the simplest terms, we can say that because God is the Owner of everything (see Ps. 24:1), it would be logical to conclude from a bibli- cal perspective that when we are finished with what God has entrusted to us, we should return to Him, the rightful Owner, what is left, once the needs of loved ones are met.
Death, as we know, can come at any time, and unexpectedly, too, even today. What would happen to your loved ones were you to die today? What, too, would happen to your property? Would it be distributed as you would like? Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats. Admonitions and Warnings
Chapter 174.
Danger in Rejecting Light
1. HOW does God regard sins of ignorance? "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent." Acts 17:30.
2. To whom is sin imputed? "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good. and doeth it not, to him it is sin." James 4:17.
3. In what words did Christ teach the same truth? "Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth." "If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak [margin, excuse] for their sin." John 9:41; 15:22. See John 3:19.
4. In view of this, what instruction does He give? "Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you. . . . While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light." John 12:35,36.
5. Who courts the light? "Every one that doeth evil hateth the light. . . . But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." John 3:20,21.

Peter Geiermann, C.S.S.R., The Converts Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1957), p. 50. "Question: Which is the Sabbath day? "Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day. "Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?"Answer. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday."
Martin J. Scott, Things Catholics Are Asked About (1927),p. 136. "Nowhere in the Bible is it stated that worship should be changed from Saturday to Sunday .... Now the Church ... instituted, by God's authority, Sunday as the day of worship. This same Church, by the same divine authority, taught the doctrine of Purgatory long before the Bible was made. We have, therefore, the same authority for Purgatory as we have for Sunday."
Peter R. Kraemer, Catholic Church Extension Society (1975),Chicago, Illinois. "Regarding the change from the observance of the Jewish Sabbath to the Christian Sunday, I wish to draw your attention to the facts:
That Protestants, who accept the Bible as the only rule of faith and religion, should by all means go back to the observance of the Sabbath. The fact that they do not, but on the contrary observe the Sunday, stultifies them in the eyes of every thinking man. "2) We Catholics do not accept the Bible as the only rule of faith. Besides the Bible we have the living Church, the authority of the Church, as a rule to guide us. We say, this Church, instituted by Christ to teach and guide man through life, has the right to change the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament and hence, we accept her change of the Sabbath to Sunday. We frankly say, yes, the Church made this change, made this law, as she made many other laws, for instance, the Friday abstinence, the unmarried priesthood, the laws concerning mixed marriages, the regulation of Catholic marriages and a thousand other laws.
It is always somewhat laughable, to see the Protestant churches, in pulpit and legislation, demand the observance of Sunday, of which there is nothing in their Bible."
"I have repeatedly offered $1,000 to anyone who can prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy. There is no such law in the Bible. It is a law of the holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says, Enright, C.S.S.R., in a lecture at Hartford, Kansas, Feb. 18,1884. 'Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.' The Catholic Church says: 'No. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week.' And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in a reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church."
Protestant Confessions Protestant theologians and preachers from a wide spectrum of denominations have been quite candid in admitting that there is no Biblical authority for observing Sunday as a sabbath.
Anglican/Episcopal Isaac Williams, Plain Sermons on the Catechism , vol. 1, pp.334, 336. "And where are we told in the Scriptures that we are to keep the first day at all? We are commanded to keep the seventh; but we are nowhere commanded to keep the first day .... The reason why we keep the first day of the week holy instead of the seventh is for the same reason that we observe many other things, not because the Bible, but because the church has enjoined it."
Canon Eyton, The Ten Commandments , pp. 52, 63, 65. "There is no word, no hint, in the New Testament about abstaining from work on Sunday .... into the rest of Sunday no divine law enters.... The observance of Ash Wednesday or Lent stands exactly on the same footing as the observance of Sunday." Bishop Seymour, Why We Keep Sunday . We have made the change from the seventh day to the first day, from Saturday to Sunday, on the authority of the one holy Catholic Church."
Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Tuesday....March 7 Begin With Personal Needs In Old Testament times, many of the children of Israel were farmers and shepherds. Thus, some of God’s promised blessings were couched in farm language. For example, in Proverbs 3:9, 10, God says that if we are financially faithful to Him, our “barns will be filled with plenty” (NKJV). It is likely that many Christians don’t have a barn today. So, we understand that God will bless our work or business if we are willing to follow and obey Him.
Read Proverbs 27:23–27. How would you interpret “Be diligent to know the state of your flocks” (NKJV) for Christians living today? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ However much the Bible warns against the rich trampling on the poor, or being greedy with their wealth, Scripture never condemns wealth or people’s efforts to acquire wealth, provided of course they don’t do it dishonestly or through oppressing others. In fact, the texts for today, in Proverbs, indicate that we should be diligent in our finan- cial affairs in order that we may have enough for ourselves and our family. “You shall have enough goats’ milk for your food, for the food of your household, and the nourishment of your maidservants” (Prov. 27:27, NKJV).
How would we rephrase Proverbs 27:27 for today? Maybe we would suggest, “Review your financial records and determine the state of your affairs.” Or “Do a balance sheet and understand your debt-to-equity ratio.” From time to time during your earning years, it would be appro- priate to review your will or other documents and your present assets and update them as necessary.
Such documents as wills and trusts are put in place early in the estate-planning process in order to be a pro- tection against untimely death, or not being able for health reasons to decide about where your assets should go. The idea is to plan ahead for what will happen to your possessions once they are no longer yours.
In short, good stewardship of what God has blessed us with doesn’t deal only with what we have while alive but also with what happens after we are gone—because, unless the Lord returns in our lifetime, we will one day be gone while our material possessions, whether a little or a lot, will remain behind. Hence, it is up to us now to make provisions so that what we have been blessed with can be a blessing to others and the furtherance of God’s work.
“For riches are not forever” (Prov. 27:24, NKJV). Why is it impor- tant to keep this thought before us?Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats.

Admonitions and Warnings
Chapter 175.
The Just Recompense
1. HOW has God recompensed men in the past? "For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; how shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" Heb. 2:2,3.
2. How are all to be rewarded in the judgment? "For we must all appear before the judgment-seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." 2 Cor. 5:10. "Who will render to every man according to his deeds: . . . for there is no respect of persons with God." Rom. 2:6-11. "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Gal. 6:7.
3. What will be the reward of the wrong-doer? "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption." Verse 8. "Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil." Rom. 2:9.
4. What will be the recompense of the righteous? "But he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." Gal. 6:8. "But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good. Rom. 2;10.
Page 702
5. What general rule of recompense is laid down in the Bible? "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." Matt. 7:1,2. "With the merciful Thou wilt show Thyself merciful; with an upright man Thou wilt show Thyself upright; with the pure Thou wilt show Thyself pure; and with the froward Thou wilt show Thyself froward." Ps. 18:25,26.
6. In view of this, what are we warned not to do? "Recompense to no man evil for evil." Rom.12:17. "Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing." 1 Peter 3:9.
7. What is said of those who render evil for good? "Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house." Prov. 17:13.
8. What principle of justice should govern us in our dealings? "Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it." Prov. 3:27.
9. Where are all to be recompensed? "Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner." Prov. 11:31.
10. In meting out the final awards, what may we be sure God will do? "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" Gen. 18:25. "Justice and judgment are the habitation of Thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before Thy face." Ps. 89:14.
O THAT the Lord would guide my ways To keep His statutes still! O that my God would grant me grace To know and do His will!
Order my footsteps by Thy word, And make my heart sincere; Let sin have no dominion, Lord, But keep my conscience clear.
Make me to walk in Thy commands, 'Tis a delightful road; Nor let my head, nor heart, nor hands Offend against my God. ISAAC WATTS.

Baptist Dr. Edward T. Hiscox, a paper read before a New York ministers' conference, Nov. 13, 1893, reported in New York Examiner , Nov.16, 1893. "There was and is a commandment to keep holy the Sabbath day, but that Sabbath day was not Sunday. It will be said, however, and with some show of triumph, that the Sabbath was transferred from the seventh to the first day of the week .... Where can the record of such a transaction be found? Not in the New Testament absolutely not.
"To me it seems unaccountable that Jesus, during three years' intercourse with His disciples, often conversing with them upon the Sabbath question . . . never alluded to any transference of the day; also, that during forty days of His resurrection life, no such thing was intimated.
"Of course, I quite well know that Sunday did come into use in early Christian history . . . . But what a pity it comes branded with the mark of paganism, and christened with the name of the sun god, adopted and sanctioned by the papal apostasy, and bequeathed as a sacred legacy to Protestantism!"
William Owen Carver, The Lord's Day in Our Day , p. 49. "There was never any formal or authoritative change from the Jewish seventh-day Sabbath to the Christian first-day observance."
Congregationalist Dr. R. W. Dale, The Ten Commandments (New York: Eaton &Mains), p. 127-129. " . . . it is quite clear that however rigidly or devotedly we may spend Sunday, we are not keeping the Sabbath - . . 'Me Sabbath was founded on a specific Divine command. We can plead no such command for the obligation to observe Sunday .... There is not a single sentence in the New Testament to suggest that we incur any penalty by violating the supposed sanctity of Sunday."
Timothy Dwight, Theology: Explained and Defended (1823), Ser. 107, vol. 3, p. 258. " . . . the Christian Sabbath [Sunday] is not in the Scriptures, and was not by the primitive Church called the Sabbath." 9
Moody, Weighed and Wanting pp 11,15,16

Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Wednesday....March 8 Deathbed Charity What principles can we take from the following texts regarding how we should deal with money? 1 Tim. 6:17 2 Cor. 4:18 Prov. 30:8 Eccles. 5:10
Money can have a powerful hold on human beings, a hold that has led to the ruin of many. Who has not heard of people who have done terrible things because of money—even when they already had a lot of it to begin with?
It doesn’t have to be that way, though. By God’s power, we can overcome the enemy’s attempt to take what was meant to be a blessing (material possessions) and turn them into a curse. In the context of being a good steward in planning for death, one danger that people face is the temptation to hoard assets now, justify- ing that hoarding with the idea that, well, “When I die, I can give it all away.” Though better than just spending it all now (one billionaire had said that he knew that he would be living right only if the check for his funeral bounced), we can and should do better than that.
“I saw that many withhold from the cause while they live, quieting their consciences that they will be charitable at death; they hardly dare exercise faith and trust in God to give anything while living. But this deathbed charity is not what Christ requires of His followers; it cannot excuse the selfishness of the living. Those who hold fast their property till the last moment surrender it to death rather than to the cause. Losses are occurring continually. Banks fail, and property is consumed in very many ways. Many purpose to do something, but they delay the matter, and Satan works to prevent the means from coming into the treasury at all. It is lost before it is returned to God, and Satan exults that it is so.”—Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 154. 84 Why must we be very careful in how we justify our use of what- ever material blessings we have? Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats. It is because the pope’s Jesuits have thoroughly infiltrated the Republican party as well as the Democratic party. Many wonder why the news media lie so much to support and protect the Democrats. Chapter 176.
The Marriage Institution
1. AFTER creating man, what did God say? "And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone." Gen. 2:18.
2. What, therefore, did God say He would make? "I will make him an help meet for him." Same verse.
NOTE.-Not a helpmeet nor a helpmate, but- two words- a help meet for him; that is, fit or suitable for him. The word meet in the original means a front, a part opposite, a counterpart or mate. Man's companion, or help, was to correspond to him. Each was to be suited to the other's needs.
3. Could such a help be found among the creatures which God had already made? "And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him." Verse 20.
4. What, therefore, did God do? "And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man." Verses 21,22.
NOTE.-How beautiful, in its fullness of meaning, is this simple but suggestive story, at which skeptics sneer. God did not make man after the order of the lower animals, but "in His own image." Neither did He choose man's companion, or "help," from some other order of beings, but made her from man- of the same substance. And He took this substance, not from man's feet, that he might have an excuse to degrade, enslave, or trample upon her; nor from man's head, that woman might assume authority over man; but from man's side, from over his heart, the sect of affections, that woman might stand at his side as man's equal, and, side by side with him, together, under God, work out the purpose and destiny of the race,- man, the strong, the noble, the dignified; woman, the weaker, the sympathetic, the loving. How much more exalted and inspiring is this view than the theory that man developed from the lower order of animals.
Page 706
5. What did Adam say as he received his wife from God? "And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Verse 23.
6. What great truth was then stated? "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." Verse 24.
7. In what words does Christ recognize marriage as of God? "Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Matt. 19:6.
NOTE.-Thus was the marriage institution ordained of God in Eden, before man sinned. Like the Sabbath, it has come down to us with the Edenic dews of divine blessing still upon it. It was ordained not only for the purpose of peopling the earth and perpetuating the race, but to promote social order and human happiness; to prevent irregular affection; and, through well-regulated families, to transmit truth, purity, and holiness from age to age. Around it cluster all the purest and truest joys of home and the race. When the divine origin of marriage is recognized, and the divine principles controlling it are obeyed, marriage is indeed a blessing; but when these are disregarded, untold evils are sure to follow. That which, rightly used, is of greatest blessing, when abused becomes the greatest curse.
8. By what commands has God guarded the marriage relation? "Thou shalt not commit adultery." "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife." Ex. 20:14,17.
9. What New Testament injunction is given respecting marriage? "Let marriage be had in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers God will judge." Heb. 13:4, R. V.
NOTE.-By many, marriage. is lightly regarded- is often made even a subject of jest. Its divine origin, its great object, and its possibilities and influences for good or evil are little thought of, and hence it is often entered into with little idea of its responsibilities or its sacred obligations. The marriage relationship is frequently used in the Scriptures as a symbol of the relationship existing between God and His people. See Rom. 7:1-4; 2 Cor. 11:2; Hosea 2:19, 20; Rev. 19:7.
Page 707
10. After the fall, what sort of marriages were introduced by men, which were productive of great evil? "And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose." Gen. 6:1,2.
NOTE.-Not only was there plurality of wives, which in itself is an evil, but the "sons of God," descending from Seth, married the "daughters of men," the descendants from the idolatrous line of Cain, and thus corrupted the seed, or church, of God itself. All the barriers against evil thus being broken down, the whole race was soon corrupted, violence filled the earth, and the flood followed.
11. What restriction did God make respecting marriages in Israel? "Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry." Num. 36:6.
12. What prohibition did God give His chosen people against intermarrying with the heathen nations about them, and why? "Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. For they will turn away thy son from following Me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly." Deut. 7:3,4.
NOTE.-Intermarriage with the ungodly was the mistake made by the professed people of God before the flood, and God did not wish Israel to repeat that folly.
13. What instruction is given in the New Testament regarding marriage with unbelievers? "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? and what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? and what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God." 2 Cor. 6:14-16.
NOTE.-This instruction forbids all compromising partnerships. Marriage of believers with unbelievers has ever been a snare by which Satan has captured many earnest souls who thought they could win the unbelieving, but in most cases have themselves drifted away from the moorings of faith into doubt, backsliding, and loss of religion. It was one of Israel's constant dangers, against which God warned them repeatedly. "Give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace [by such compromise] or their wealth forever." Ezra 9:12. See also Ex. 34:14-16; Judges 14:1-3. Ezra 9 and 10; and Neh. 13:23-27. Even Solomon fell before the influence of heathen wives. Concerning him the inspired Word has left this melancholy record: "His wives turned away his heart after other gods." 1 Kings 11:4. No Christian can marry an unbeliever without running serious risk, and placing himself upon the enemy's ground. The Scriptures do not advocate separation after the union has been formed (see 1 Cor. 7:2-16), but good sense should teach us that faith can best be maintained, and domestic happiness best insured, where both husband and wife are believers, and of the same faith. Both ministers and parents, therefore, should warn the young against all improper marriages.
Page 708
14. What instruction did Abraham give his servant Eliezer when sending him to select a wife for his son Isaac? "Thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house." Gen. 24:40.
NOTE.-This passage indicates that in early Bible times parents generally had more to do in the selection of life companions for their children than they commonly have now. Young people who are wise will seek the advice and counsel of their parents, and above all, will seek to know the will of God, before entering upon this important relationship, with its grave responsibilities and its momentous consequences.
15. For how long does marriage bind the contracting parties? "For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth." Rom. 7:2. See 1 Cor. 7:39.
16. What only does Christ recognize as proper ground for dissolving the marriage relationship? "Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery." Matt. 19:9.
NOTE.-Civil laws recognize other reasons as justifiable causes for separation, such as extreme cruelty, habitual drunkenness, or other like gross offenses; but only one offense, according to Christ, warrants the complete annulment of the marriage tie.
THERE is a bliss beyond all that the minstrel has told, When two that are linked in one heavenly tie, With heart never changing and brow never cold, Love on through all ills, and love on till they die. MOORE.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Medieval Scholastic philosophers and theologians, such as Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Bonaventure, held that all the commandments are a part of the natural law and are therefore knowable to all thinking people.

Todays' Sabbath school lesson: Thursday.....March 9 Spiritual Legacy Though it’s hard to know what life would have been like on earth had humans not sinned, one thing we can know for sure: there would have been no hoarding, no greed, no poverty—things that have plagued our world since recorded history. Our sense of ownership, of what we have worked for and, if we did it honestly, is rightfully ours, is nevertheless a manifestation of life in a fallen world. In the end, however, regardless of how much we do or do not own, there’s one important point that we should always remember.
Read the following texts. What is the central point in them all, and how should that point impact what we do with whatever material means God has blessed us with? (Ps. 24:1, Heb. 3:4, Ps. 50:10, Gen. 14:19, Col. 1:15–17). ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ We are stewards and managers of what God has entrusted to us; that is, He ultimately owns it all, and He is the one who gives us life, exis- tence, and the strength to have anything at all. It is only logical, then, that when we are finished with what God has given us, and have taken care of our family, we should return the rest to Him.
“In giving to the work of God, you are laying up for yourselves treasures in heaven. All that you lay up above is secure from disaster and loss, and is increasing to an eternal, an enduring substance” “[and] will be registered to your account in the kingdom of heaven.”—Ellen G. White, Counsels on Stewardship, p. 342.
There are many advantages to giving now, while we live. Here are a few: 1.The donor actually can see the results of the gift—a new church building, a young person in college, an evangelistic campaign funded, and so on. 2. The ministry or person can benefit now when the need is greatest. 3. There is no fighting among family or friends after your death. 4. It sets a good example of family values of generosity and love for others.
5. It minimizes estate tax consequence. 6. It guarantees that the gift will be made to your desired entity (no interference from courts or disgruntled relatives). 7. It demonstrates that the heart of the donor has been changed from selfish to unselfish. 8. It stores up treasures in heaven.

Good Morning. Today is the sixth workday of the week. the preparation, the sabbath is drawing on.

"Is Saturday the 7th day according to the Bible and the 10 Commandments?"
"I answer yes".
"Is Sunday the first day of the week and did the Church change the 7th day, Saturday, for Sunday, the 1st day?"
"I answer yes".
"Did Christ change the day?"
"I answer no!" Faithfully yours, "J. Cardinal Gibbons" Gibbons' autograph letter.
Some theologians have held that God likewise directly determined the Sunday as the day of worship in the NEW LAW, that he himself has explicitly substituted Sunday for the Sabbath.
But this theory is entirely abandoned. It is now commonly held that God simply gave His church the power to set aside whatever day or days she would deem suitable as holy days. The church chose Sunday, the first day of the week, and in the course of time added other days as holy days."
John Laux A Course in Religion for Catholic High Schools and Academies 1936, vol.1 p.51 What day is the Sabbath day?
Saturday is the Sabbath day.
Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemity from Saturday to Sunday."
Peter Geiermann, The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1946 ed.), p.50. Geiermann received the "apostolic blessing" of Pope Pius X on his labors, January 25, 1910.
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
todays' Sabbath School lesson: Friday.....March10 Further Thought: Ellen G. White wrote two chapters on this important topic of distribution of our assets. See “To (Aged and) Wealthy Parents,” in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 3, pp. 116–130, and “Wills and Legacies,” in Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, pp. 476–485.
There also is a section that discusses estate planning in Counsels on Stewardship, pp. 323–335. Ellen G. White also wrote: “That which many propose to defer until they are about to die, if they were Christians indeed they would do while they have a strong hold on life. They would devote themselves and their property to God, and, while acting as His stewards, they would have the satisfaction of doing their duty. By becoming their own executors, they could meet the claims of God themselves, instead of shifting the responsibility upon others.”—Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 480.
What does she mean by “becoming their own executors”? In a typi- cal will, the one making the will appoints an executor to distribute the assets following his death in harmony with his wishes as expressed in the will. By becoming your own executor, you simply distribute your assets yourself while you are living. By doing so, you will have the satisfaction of seeing the results and of knowing that you are handling God’s entrusted talents properly.
For the Christian, the second coming of Christ is the “Blessed Hope.” We all have imagined how awesome it will be to see Jesus coming in the clouds of heaven. We are eager to hear the words, “Well done” (Matt. 25:21). But what if we should be laid to our rest before Jesus returns? If we have followed His revealed will, we can have the satisfaction now of seeing the work go forward because of our efforts, knowing that because of our estate plan, the work will continue after we are gone.
Discussion Questions: 1.Though we can lay up treasure in heaven now, why is that not the same thing as trying to earn, or even “buy,” your way to salva- tion?
2. While we should be generous in giving with what we have now, we also should be wise. How often have we heard people, par- ticularly date-setters, make appeals for money because such and such an event is going to happen at such and such a date, and so because our money will be useless then, we’d better send it into his or her ministry now? How can we learn to discern between this trickery and legitimate ways that we can use our money even now for the cause of God?
inside Story Meet Them Where They Are By AnDrew Mcchesney Simo Vehkavuori, a retired pastor, sensed an inner voice inviting him to keep on walking after he arrived at a lake crowded with sunbathers and swimmers in Finland. Simo followed a path past several smaller lakes. “Go farther,” the inner voice said. Simo reached a small lake and saw four young people seated on the ground. “Would you like to hear a story from the Finnish Civil War a hundred years ago?” he asked.
“Yes, please tell us!” they said.
When Simo finished the story, he said, “Excuse me, but do you mind if I ask you how you feel about religion?”
“We believe in God,” they said.
“Would you like to hear how I became a Christian?” he asked.
When he finished, he mentioned that he had several cards for online Bible studies. The young people were interested, and Simo found he had exactly four cards in his pocket. “Wow!” a young woman exclaimed. “The Lord knew that there were four of us. That is why you had four cards with you!”
At another lake, Simo approached a young woman who was sunbathing. “Would you like to hear a story from the Finnish Civil War?” he asked. After the story, he asked how she felt about religion and told how he had become a Christian. Seeing that she was interested, he said, “I have a book called Steps to Christ at home. Would you mind waiting 20 minutes?”
She agreed. When he returned with the book and a Bible-study card, she said, “When you left, I started timing you on my watch. It took you only 15 minutes.” She gratefully accepted the gifts. Another time, Simo went up to a married couple with their teen son. “Would you like to hear a story from the Finnish Civil War?” he asked. Afterward, when he asked how they felt about religion, the parents replied that they had a major problem at home. Their son was using drugs. “We need to pray together,” Simo said. The woman began to cry. After praying, Simo said, “I would like to share with you a book, but it is at my home.”
“We can go in our car,” the man said. At his home, Simo gave the grateful couple Steps to Christ and a Bible study-card. Simo believes God is blessing his efforts to meet people in secular Finland. No one has ever refused his offer to tell how he became a Christian. His mis- sion outreach, he said, is inspired by the example of Paul. “I am convinced that we should go out to meet people and not wait for them to come to us,” he said.

Chapter 179.
Honor Due to Parents
1. BY what is every child known? "Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right." Prov. 20:11.
2. What is the duty of every child? "My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother." Prov. 1:8.
3. What does the fifth commandment require of children? "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." Ex. 20:12.
NOTE.-While this precept refers directly to our earthly parents, it also includes God, our Father in heaven; for in honoring them we honor Him. To the child too young to know God, the earthly parent takes the place of God. Learning to honor, respect, and obey his earthly parents is the child's first and most important lesson in learning to honor, respect, and obey God, his Heavenly Parent. Benjamin Franklin well said: "Let a child's first lesson be obedience, and the second may be what thou wilt."
4. For how long a time should one honor his parents? "Harken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old." Prov. 23:22.
NOTE.-As long as parents live, they should be honored and respected by their children. The duty enjoined in the fifth commandment does not cease at maturity, nor when the child leaves the parental roof.
Page 717
5. What is the character of a child who will not listen to his father's instruction? "A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent." Prov. 15:5.
6. What course on the part of children is well-pleasing to the Lord? "Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well-pleasing unto the Lord." Col. 3:20.
7. In what spirit should children obey their parents? "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right." Eph. 6:1.
8. What is one way in which a child may dishonor his parents? "He that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father." Prov. 28:7.
9. What is said of one who robs his father or his mother? "Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer." Verse 24.
10. How did Jesus honor His parents? "He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them." Luke 2:51.
11. How did the Jewish leaders in the days of Christ, for the sake of gain, make void the fifth commandment? "But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; and honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition." Matt. 15:5,6.
NOTE.-The word translated gift in this text means a thing dedicated to God, and therefore not to be used for any other purpose. In this way the Jewish teachers, by their traditional law, taught children that by saying that their property was thus dedicated to the temple or to religious purposes, they were free from the obligation to honor and support their parents, thus making void one of the commandments of God. This Christ condemned.
12. In what other way do some dishonor their father and mother? "There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother." Prov. 30:11.
Page 718
13. What will be the fate of the one who curseth his father or his mother? "Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness." "The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it." Prov. 20:20; 30:17.
14. What will be the reward of those who honor their parents? "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." Ex. 20:12.
NOTE.-The fullness of this promise will be realized in the life to come when the earth, restored to its Edenic beauty, will become the eternal home of all those who have truly honored their parents and kept all God's commandments.
15. What comment has the apostle Paul made upon this commandment? "Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth." Eph. 6:2,3.
16. In what age of the world is disobedience to parents to be especially manifest? "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy." 2 Tim. 3:1,2.
NOTE.-Disobedience to parents is a marked characteristic of the present generation. Never before was it so common or so wide-spread. The root of the evil, however, lies not so much in the children as in the parents. Many of the latter are disobedient to God, their Father in heaven, and so have failed to bring up their children in the fear of God and in the ways of righteousness. Bible instruction, lessons of faith, and prayer must not be neglected in the home if we would see obedient, God-fearing children growing up in the world.
BE KIND to thy father, for when thou wert young, Who loved thee so fondly as he? He caught the first accents that fell from thy tongue, And joined in thy innocent glee.
Be kind to thy mother, for lo! on her brow May traces of sorrow be seen; O well may'st thou cherish and comfort her now, For loving and kind hath she been.

Todays sabbath school lesson: sabbath.....*March 11–17 Managing in Tough Times Sabbath afternoon Read for This Week’s Study: 2 Chron. 20:1–22, 1 Chron. 21:1–14, 2 Pet. 3:3–12, 1 John 2:15–17, Rev. 13:11–17. Memory Text: “ ‘Offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High. Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me’ ” (Psalm 50:14, 15, NKJV).
Sometimes our world seems to be spinning out of control: wars, bloodshed, crime, immorality, natural disasters, pandemics, economic uncertainty, political corruption, and more. There is a strong urge for individuals and families to think first of their own sur- vival. Accordingly, much thought is given to seeking security in these uncertain times, which, of course, is understandable.
The toils of life do take a lot of our daily focus. With debts to pay, children to raise, property to maintain, it does take time and thought. And, of course, we do need clothes, food, and shelter. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus addressed these very basic needs and then stated, “ ‘Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you’ ” (Matt. 6:32, 33, NKJV).
Amid trying times, when we need to lean on the Lord more than ever, there are some concrete steps, based on biblical principles, that we should follow. * Study this week’s lesson to prepare for Sabbath, March 18.Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats.

Chapter 180.
Child Training
1. HOW should parents train their children? "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Prov. 22:6. "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." Eph. 6:4.
2. How diligently should parents teach children God's Word? "These words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children." "Ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." Deut. 6:6,7; 11:19.
3. What high ideal should be placed before the young? "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity." 1 Tim. 4:12.
4. What duty does God require of children? "Honor thy father and thy mother." Ex. 20:12.
Page 720
5. What is to be one of the prominent sins of the last days? "For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy." 2 Tim. 3:2.
6. Why did God reprove Eli? "In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not." 1 Sam. 3:12,13.
7. How should the youth be taught to regard the aged? "Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord." Lev. 19:32.
8. What are some good fruits of proper child training? "Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul." Prov. 29:17.
9. What will result if correction is withheld? "The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame." Verse 15. See Prov. 22:15.
10. Is there danger of delaying correction too long? "Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying." Prov. 19:18. See Prov. 23:13,14.
11. Does proper correction evidence a want of parental love? "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes." Prov. 13:24.
NOTE.-One Christian mother writes thus concerning the importance of child training: "Children who are allowed to come up to manhood or womanhood with the will undisciplined and the passions uncontrolled, will generally in after-life pursue a course which God condemns. The neglect of parents to properly discipline their children has been a fruitful source of evil in many families. The youth have not been restrained as they should have been. Parents have neglected to follow the directions of the Word of God in this matter, and the children have taken the reins of government into their own hands. The consequence has been that they have generally succeeded in ruling their parents, instead of being under their authority. False ideas and a foolish, misdirected affection have nurtured traits which have made the children unlovely and unhappy, have embittered the lives of the parents, and have extended their baleful influence from generation to generation. Any child that is permitted to have his own way will dishonor God and bring his father and mother to shame."
12. Whom does the Lord chasten? "For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth." Heb. 12:6.
NOTE.-From this we may learn that all child training should be done in love, and that proper child training is an evidence of true love.
Page 721
13. Against what evil should fathers guard? "Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged." Col. 3:21.
NOTE.-Correction should never be given in anger, for anger in the parent stirs up anger in the child. It is well to pray with a child before correcting him, and frequently mild but faithful instruction, admonition and prayer are all the training necessary,- are, in fact, the best training that can be given. But in any case of perverseness, stubbornness, or willful disobedience, the correction, whatever it may be, should be persisted in until the child yields submissively to the will and wishes of the parent. It is best, generally, that correction should be done in private, as this tends to preserve the self-respect of the child, a very important element in character building. No correction nor training should be violent or abusive, or given for the purpose of breaking the will of the child, but rather to direct the will, bring it into proper subjection, and the child to a realizing sense of what is right and duty.
14. How are the present effects and future results of chastisement contrasted? "Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby." Heb. 12:11.
15. What question must every unfaithful parent meet? "Where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?" Jer. 13:20.
NOTE.-Happy will those parents be who can say, "Behold, here am I and the children Thou gavest me." See Isa. 8:18.
THE OLDEST university was not on India's strand, Nor in the valley of the Nile, nor on Arabia's sand; From time's beginning it has taught and still it teaches free Its learning mild to every child- the school of Mother's Knee.
The oldest school to teach the law, and teach it deeply, too, Dividing what should not be done from what each one should do, Was not in Rome nor Ispahan nor by the Euxine Sea; But it held its sway ere history's day- the school of Mother's Knee.
The oldest seminary, where theology was taught, Where love to God, and reverent prayer, and the Eternal Ought Were deep impressed on youthful hearts in pure sincerity, Came to the earth with Abel's birth- the school of Mother's Knee.
The oldest, and the newest, too, it still maintains its place, And from its classes, ever full, it graduates the race. Without its teaching, where would all the best of living be? 'Twas planned by heaven this earth to leaven- the school of Mother's Knee.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Protestant Confessions Protestant theologians and preachers from a wide spectrum of denominations have been quite candid in admitting that there is no Biblical authority for observing Sunday as a sabbath.
Baptist Dr.
Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Sunday......March 12 Putting God First Read 2 Chronicles 20:1–22. What important spiritual principles can we take from this story for ourselves, whatever struggles we are facing? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ Toward the close of Jehoshaphat’s reign, Judah was invaded. Jehoshaphat was a man of courage and valor. For years he had been strengthening his armies and his fortified cities. He was well prepared to meet almost any enemy; yet in this crisis, he did not put his confidence in his own strength but in the power of God. He set himself to seek the Lord, and he pro- claimed a fast throughout all Judah. The people all gathered together in the court of the temple, as Solomon had prayed that they would do if faced by danger. All the men of Judah stood before the Lord with their wives and children. They prayed that God would confuse their enemies and that His name might be glorified. Then the king prayed, “ ‘We have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You’ ” (2 Chron. 20:12, NKJV).
After they committed themselves to God in this manner, the Spirit of the Lord came upon a man of God, who said, “ ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. . . . You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord’ ” (2 Chron. 20:15–17, NKJV).
So, early the next morning, the king assembled the people, with the Levitical choir in the front to sing the praises of God. Then he admon- ished the people, “ ‘Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper’ ” (2 Chron. 20:20, NKJV). Then the choir began to sing, and their enemies destroyed one another, and “none escaped” (2 Chron. 20:24). It took the men of Judah three days just to collect the spoils of the battle, and on the fourth day they returned to Jerusalem, singing as they went.
Of course, the God who delivered them is the same God whom we love and worship, and His power is just as great today as back then. The challenge, for us, is to trust in Him and His leading. Read 2 Chronicles 20:20. Chapter 181.
The Mother
1. WHY did Adam call his wife's name Eve? "And Adam called his wife's name Eve: because she was the mother of all living." Gen. 3:20.
NOTE.-It is said that the three sweetest words in any language are mother, home, and heaven.
2. What did God say to Abraham concerning his wife, Sarah? "And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will' bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her." Gen. 17:16.
3. What commandment guards the honor of the mother? "Honor thy father and thy mother." Ex. 20:12.
4. How early did Hannah dedicate her son Samuel to God? "And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed . . . give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life." 1 Sam. 1:11.
5. To whom did God commit the care and early training of His only begotten Son? "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshiped Him." Matt. 2:11.
Page 724
6. Under the influence of her tender care and faithful instruction, what is said of the child life of Jesus? "And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon Him. . . . And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." Luke 2:40-52.
NOTES.-"The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world."
"A mother is a mother still, The holiest thing on earth."
A Christian mother above all others, can deeply implant and faithfully cherish the seeds of truth in the young and tender heart. More even than the father, the mother molds the life, character, and destiny of man. Every stage and phase of life is touched and influenced by her. Infancy, childhood, youth, manhood, and old age alike center in her. She is both the morning and the evening star of life,- the angel spirit of the home.
7. What tender, filial regard did Christ manifest for His mother in the hour of His death? "When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple standing by, whom He loved [John], He saith unto His mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith He to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home." John 19:26,27.
8. How early did Timothy know the Scriptures? "And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures." 2 Tim. 3:15.
9. What is said of his mother and his grandmother? "When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwell first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice." 2 Tim. 1:5.
NOTE.-No position in life is superior to that of the mother, no influence more potent for good or evil. "All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my mother," said Abraham Lincoln. "All that I have ever accomplished in life, owe to my mother," declared D. L. Moody. "A kiss from my mother," said Benjamin West, "made me a painter." "My mother was the making of me," declares the noted inventor, Thomas A. Edison. And Andrew Carnegie, the millionaire, who gave his mother his earnings when a boy, adds, "I am deeply touched by the remembrance of one to whom I owe everything that a wise mother ever gave to a son who adored her." It has been truly said that the home is the primeval school, the best, the most hallowed, and the most potential of all academies, and that the mother is the first, the most influential, and therefore the most important of all teachers. See poem in previous chapter.

Moody, Weighed and Wanting pp 11,15,16

Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Monday....March 13 Trust God, Not Your Own Resources King David should have known better. He should have known from the experience of his best friend, Jonathan, that when you are in covenant relationship with God, it doesn’t matter whether you have a few men or many; God can give you the victory. In 1 Samuel 14:1–23, the Bible records the story of how Saul’s son Jonathan and Jonathan’s armor-bearer defeated an entire garrison of Philistines—with the help of God. But in spite of this experience and many others in the history of God’s people, when difficult times came to King David, he allowed Satan to tempt him to trust in his own strength and ingenuity.
Read 1 Chronicles 21:1–14. Why did David decide to number Israel or count his soldiers? Why did his commander Joab counsel against this? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ Note that it was Satan’s idea to count the soldiers. He tempted David to trust in his own strength rather than to depend on the providence of God in his defense. Joab, the leader of Israel’s army, tried to persuade David not to number Israel because he had seen God work on behalf of Israel, but David demanded that the numbering go forward. His actions brought calamity to the nation, as the text reveals.
No one ever trusted God in vain. Whenever you do battle for the Lord, prepare yourself. And prepare well too. There’s a quote, attributed to a British ruler, Oliver Cromwell (1599–1658), who, before a battle, said to his army, “Put your trust in God, my boys, and keep your powder dry!” (The powder was gunpowder.) In other words, do all that you can to suc- ceed, but, in the end, realize that only God can give you victory.
In our immediate context, it is very tempting to trust in the power of the government or in our bank accounts, but in every crisis mentioned in the Bible, when the people trusted in God, He honored their trust and provided for them.
We should be using the present time to get square with God, get out of debt, and be generous with what we have been given. In the words of the well-known, Thomas Dorsey gospel song, “If we ever needed the Lord before, we sure do need Him now.”
How do we strike the right balance between doing what we can, for instance, to be financially secure, and yet, at the same time, trusting in the Lord for all things? Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats. Medieval Scholastic philosophers and theologians, such as Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Bonaventure, held that all the commandments are a part of the natural law and are therefore knowable to all thinking people.

" The Catholic Mirror, official organ of Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893.
"Is Saturday the 7th day according to the Bible and the 10 Commandments?"
"I answer yes".
Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Tuesday.......March 14 Time to Simplify? What should Seventh-day Adventist Christians do in response to dif- ficult times? Do we hunker down in a survival mode? No, in fact, just the opposite is true. Because we know that the end of the world and the second coming of Christ is near, we want to use our assets to tell others the good news of the gospel and what God has prepared for those who love Him. We understand that someday soon everything on this earth will be burned up.
Read 2 Peter 3:3–12. What is Peter telling us with these words? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ We understand from the Word of God that He is not sending moving vans to take our stuff to heaven. It will all get burned up in the final conflagration when all traces of sin and evil will be forever destroyed.
So, what should we do with our possessions? “It is now that our brethren should be cutting down their possessions instead of increas- ing them. We are about to move to a better country, even a heavenly. Then let us not be dwellers upon the earth, but be getting things into as compact a compass as possible.”—Ellen G. White, Counsels on Stewardship, p. 59.
Of course, she wrote those words more than a century ago! But still the principle remains: time is always short, because our lives are always short. What are 60, 80, or 100 years (if you have good genes and good health practices) in contrast to eternity? Your life can end before you finish reading this week’s lesson, and the next thing you will know is the second coming of Jesus.
(Wow, that was fast after all, wasn’t it?)
As Seventh-day Adventist Christians we must always live in the light of eternity. Yes, of course, we need to work hard to provide for ourselves and our families; and if we have been blessed with wealth, nothing is wrong with enjoying it now, provided we don’t become greedy and are generous with it in regard to the needy. Yet, we must always remember that whatever we accumulate here is transitory; fleeting; and, if we are not careful, has the potential to be spiritually corrupting.
If you knew Jesus were coming within ten years, how would you change your life? Or within five years? Or three?

Chapter 183.
Promises for the Children
1. WHAT is said of the fifth commandment? "Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise." Eph. 6:2.
2. What is promised those who honor their father and their mother? "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." Ex. 20:12.
3. What does God desire to teach the children? "Come, ye children, harken unto Me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord." Ps. 34:11.
4. What is the fear of the Lord declared to be? "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments." Ps. 111:10.
5. What is said of the poor but wise child? "Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished." Eccl. 4:13.
Page 730
6. How did Christ show His tender regard for children? "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto Me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Matt. 19:14.
7. How did He show that He loved them? "And He took them up in His arms; put His hands upon them, and blessed them." Mark 10:16.
8. With what promise do the Old Testament Scriptures close? "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." Mal. 4:5,6.
NOTE.-From this we learn that while disobedience to parents and the breaking up of home ties will characterize the last days (2 Tim. 3:1-3; Matt. 24:37-39; Gen. 6:1,2), God's message for the last days will strengthen the cords of love and affection, and bind the hearts of parents and children together.
9. What peaceful, happy conditions will prevail in the next world as compared with those of this life? "They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them." "The sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." Isa. 65:23; 11:8,9.
A PAIR of very chubby legs Incased in scarlet hose, A pair of little stubby boots With rather doubtful toes, A little kilt, a little coat, Cut as a mother can- And, lo! before us strides in state The future's "coming man."
Ah! blessings on those little hands, Whose work is yet undone, And blessings on those little feet, Whose race is yet unrun. And blessings on the little brain, That has not learned to plan. What e'er the future holds in store, God bless the "coming man."

John Laux A Course in Religion for Catholic High Schools and Academies 1936, vol.1 p.51
What day is the Sabbath day?
Saturday is the Sabbath day.
Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemity from Saturday to Sunday."
Peter Geiermann, The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1946 ed.), p.50. Geiermann received the "apostolic blessing" of Pope Pius X on his labors, January 25, 1910.
Todays' Sabbath School lesson.....Wednsday....March 15 Priorities The parables and teachings of Jesus, the stories of Bible characters, and the counsel of Ellen G. White all indicate clearly that there is no halfway commitment to Christ. Either we are or we are not on the Lord’s side.
When asked by a scribe which commandment was the greatest, Jesus answered, “ ‘ “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” ’ ” (Mark 12:30, NKJV). When we give all to Christ, there is nothing left for another master. That is the way it is. That is the way it must be.
Read Matthew 6:24. What has been your own experience with the truth of these words? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ Notice, Jesus didn’t say that it was hard to serve God and money, or that you needed to be careful in how you served both. He said, instead, that it couldn’t be done. Period. This thought should put a bit of fear and trembling in our souls (Phil. 2:12).
Read 1 John 2:15–17. How are these three things manifested in our world, and why is the danger they present sometimes more subtle than we realize? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ No wonder Paul wrote, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Col. 3:2). Of course, that’s easier said than done, because the things of the world are right here before us every day. The lure of “all that is in the world” is strong; the pull for immediate grati- fication is always there, whispering in our ears or pulling on our shirt sleeves—or both. Hasn’t even the most faithful Christian felt some love for “the things of the world”? Even with our knowledge that one day it will all end, we still feel the pull, don’t we? The good news, however, is that we don’t need to let it pull us away from the Lord.
Read 2 Peter 3:10–14. How should what Peter says here impact how we live, including what we do with our resources?
Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats. It is because the pope’s Jesuits have thoroughly infiltrated the Republican party as well as the Democratic party. Many wonder why the news media lie so much to support and protect the Democrats. Chapter 184.
Evils of City Life
1. WHEN Abraham told Lot to choose that part of the country which he preferred, what choice did Lot make? "And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord. . . . Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan." Gen. 13:10,11.
2. Where did Lot dwell? "Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom." Verse 12.
3. What was the character of the inhabitants of Sodom? "But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly." Verse 13.
4. What further description is given of this city? "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty; and committed abomination before Me: therefore I took them away as I saw good." Eze. 16:49,50. See Gen. 19:1-9.
5. How did their conduct affect Lot? "And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds)." 2 Peter 2:7,8.
Page 732
6. Before destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, whom did the Lord send to deliver Lot and his family? "And there came two angels to Sodom at even. . . . And the men [angels] said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son-in-law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: for we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it." Gen.19:1-13.
7. What did Lot do, and how were his efforts rewarded? "And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons-in-law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons-in-law." Verse 14.
8. What did the angels say to Lot the next morning? "Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. . . . Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed." Verses 15-17.
9. What then took place? "Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; and He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground." Verses 24,25.
10. Because she disregarded the instruction given by the angels, what became of Lot's wife? "But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt." Verse 26.
NOTE.-As a result of choosing a city life, Lot lost nearly all his family.
11. Foretelling the condition of the world previous to His second advent, to what did Christ liken it? "Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed." Luke 17:28-30.
NOTE.-The cities of today are fast becoming like Sodom and Gomorrah- centers and sink-holes of vice, pride, violence, confusion, and crime. The cities of the United States, while containing only about one half the population of the country, furnish ninety-seven per cent of the crime. Out of 268 boys in the Kansas State Reform School a few years ago, all but three came from cities. In New York City a murder is committed every thirty-six hours. The numerous holidays, the whirl of excitement, pleasure, and sports, theatergoing, horse-racing, gambling, liquor drinking, and reveling in the cities, attract thousands from the sober duties of life, and stimulate every evil passion to activity. What a poor place, therefore, are the cities of today in which to rear a family! Too many, like Lot, have pitched their tent toward Sodom.

12. Of what is the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah a type? "And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly." 2 Peter 2:6.
NOTE.-The destruction of such cities as Sodom and Gomorrah, Babylon and Jerusalem, is set forth as a type of the destruction awaiting the world. Says one writer: "The time is near when the large cities will be visited by the judgments of God. In a little while these cities will be terribly shaken. No matter how large or strong their buildings, no matter how many safeguards against fire may have been provided, let God touch these buildings and in a few minutes or in a few hours they will be in ruins. The ungodly cities of our world are to be swept away by the besom of destruction. In the calamities that are now befalling immense buildings and large portions of the cities, God is showing us what will come upon the whole earth," The destruction of the great cities now almost wholly given up to sinful pleasure, pride mammon-worship, and idolatry, is impending. It is time, therefore, that those who are really in earnest concerning their children's salvation begin to think about leaving these cities.
13. What is to take place under the seventh plague? "And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; . . . and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. . . . And the cities of the nations fell." Rev. 16:17-19.
HOW PRONE are professors to rest on their lees, To study their pleasure, their profit and ease! Though God says: "Arise, and escape for thy life! And look not behind thee; remember Lot's wife."
Awake from thy slumbers, the warning believe; 'Tis Jesus that calls you, the message receive; While dangers are pending, escape for thy life! And look not behind thee; remember Lot's wife.
The ways of religion true pleasure afford, No pleasures can equal the joys of the Lord. Forsake then the world, an escape for thy life, And look not behind thee; remember Lot's wife.

Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Thursday.....March 16 When No One Can Buy or Sell The Bible paints a painful picture of the world before the second coming of Jesus. Daniel writes about “ ‘a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time’ ” (Dan. 12:1, NKJV). Considering some of the troublous times in the past, what he is referring to here must be pretty bad.
The book of Revelation also points to troubling times before the return of Christ. Read Revelation 13:11–17. How do financial matters fit in with the end-time persecution? ________________________________________________________ You can’t buy or sell? How much of our lives today revolves around buying and selling? Our work is, in a sense, our selling of our time and skills and goods to those who want to buy them. Not being able to buy or sell all but means not being able to function in society. The pressure on those who remain faithful will then be enormous. Plus, the more money that you have, the more stake you will have in this world, at least in terms of material possessions, and so, surely, the pressure to conform will be even stronger.
How then do we prepare? We prepare now, by making sure through God’s grace that we are not slaves to our money, to the things of the world. If we are not bound to them now, we won’t be when we will, in order to be faithful, have to give them up.
Read Deuteronomy 14:22 and the last part of verse 23. What were God’s people to do with their increase or production each year? Why did God ask them to do this? ________________________________________________________ God explained through Moses that one of the reasons He established the tithing system was “ ‘that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always’ ” (Deut. 14:23, NKJV). In the poetic parallelism of Psalm 31:19, we see that fear is synonymous with trust. “Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You” (NKJV).
These parallel lines show us that to fear the Lord is to trust Him. Therefore, we understand that God established the tithing system to protect us from selfishness and to encourage us to trust Him to provide for us. While being faithful in tithe is certainly not a guarantee that people will stay faithful in the end, those who are not faithful in tithe are surely setting themselves up for trouble.

Section 9
The Sabbath
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++== Protestant Confessions Protestant theologians and preachers from a wide spectrum of denominations have been quite candid in admitting that there is no Biblical authority for observing Sunday as a sabbath.
Baptist Dr.
Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Friday....March 17 Further Thought: Though nothing in the Bible warns against wealth, nothing in the Bible talks about wealth as increasing one’s spiritual com- mitment either. In fact, the opposite danger is true.
“The love of money, the desire for wealth, is the golden chain that binds them [people] to Satan.” —Ellen G. White, Steps to Christ, p. 44.
In fact, since the founding of Christianity, no church has ever partaken of such wealth and creature comforts as the church in many countries of the world enjoys today. The question is: At what cost? Such affluence surely influences our spirituality—and not for the good either. How could it? Since when have wealth and material abundance fostered the Christian virtues of self-denial and self-sacrifice? Can coming home to refrigerators stuffed with more food than we can eat, and owning one or two cars, and taking yearly vacations, and shopping online, and having the latest in home computers and smartphones make it easier to love not the world nor the things in the world?
Though many members of our church don’t have these luxuries, many do—and they do so at the peril of their own souls. We are not talking about the “rich” now, as in millionaires and beyond. They at least know that they’re rich, and they can heed (if they choose) the biblical cautions given them. We’re talk- ing, instead, about many even of the middle-class people, who—amid smartphones, iMacs, air-conditioning, and SUVs—are fooled enough to think that because they are just “middle class,” they are not in danger of being spiritually pickled by their own prosperity.
That’s why tithing can be, if nothing else, a powerful spiritual antidote to the dangers of wealth, even for those who are not particularly “wealthy.”
Discussion Questions:
1. Even if we are not rich by the world’s standards, why must we all be careful about our attitude toward money and wealth?
2. What are some practical things we can do, besides tithing, that can help us make sure we are not getting too caught up in the things of this world?
3. What would happen to you tomorrow if, suddenly, you could not buy or sell because you are numbered among those “who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” (Rev. 14:12, NKJV)? How well would your faith fare?
Inside Story Two Best Friends By chifunDo kAnjo Bahadu Ibrahim was born to non-Christian parents who expected him to follow their faith in central Malawi. He had no problem with that because he did not know any other religion.
But then an older brother married a Seventh-day Adventist woman and joined the Adventist Church. As a teen, Bahadu was sent by his parents to live with his brother and his wife in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe. When Sabbath came, his brother expected him to go to church with them. Bahadu did not want to go, but he felt like he had no choice. For two years, he went to church every Sabbath out of a sense of duty.
Returning to his parents in Kaluluma village, he thought to forget the Bible. But he made friends with another teenager who happened to be an Adventist. Bahadu admired his new friend very much for his kindness and gentleness. Everyone in the village admired the young man and spoke highly of him.
One Sabbath, the friend invited Bahadu to go to church. What could Bahadu do? He went. He was glad to spend time with his best friend, even in church. As time passed, their friendship grew, and Bahadu listened to his friend explain that the seventh day was the true Sabbath of God. His friend gave him books to read. Little by little, he understood new truths about God and the Sabbath. However, he was not convinced that Saturday was the true Sabbath. Without his parents’ knowledge, he decided to compare the Bible with his family’s traditional religious book. As he read, he discovered that his family’s religious book contained only one woman’s name, Maryam, the mother of Jesus. He also discovered that Jesus is Lord. Bahadu decided to give his heart to Jesus in baptism. He no longer went to church out of sense of duty. He went to spend special time with his new best Friend.
After Bahadu’s baptism, his parents disowned him and stopped paying his high-school fees, leaving him unable to graduate with the rest of his class. Both of his parents died without accepting his decision, and many relatives continue to treat him with hostility today. But Bahadu has not wavered in his faith. “This is the best decision that I have ever made,” he said. Today he is a student at Malawi Adventist University, studying to become a pastor.
Thank you for your 2021 Thirteenth Sabbath Offering that is helping to construct a community outreach and leadership development center on the Mzuzu campus of Malawi Adventist University, where BahaDu studies, in the Southern Africa- Indian Ocean Division. This quarter’s offering will support six additional educational projects in the neighboring East- Central Africa Division. Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats. Good Morning. Today is the holy sabbath day.....the Lords' Day!

Moody, Weighed and Wanting pp 11,15,16

Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Sabbath.......*March 18–24 Rewards of Faithfulness Sabbath afternoon Read for This Week’s Study: Heb. 11:6, Isa. 62:11, Rom. 6:23, John 14:1–3, Revelation 21, Matt. 25:20–23, Rom. 8:16–18.
Memory Text: “ ‘His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord” ’ ” (Matthew 25:21, NKJV).
Though we can never earn salvation, the Bible uses the hope of reward as a motivation for faithful living as undeserving recipi- ents of God’s grace, for in the end whatever we receive is, always and only, from God’s grace.
As David wrote: “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward” (Ps. 19:7–11, NKJV). In various places, the Bible talks about our rewards, what we are promised through Christ after the Second Coming and this terrible detour with sin is once and for all over and done.
What are we promised, and what assurance do we have of getting what we have been promised? * Study this week’s lesson to prepare for Sabbath, March 25.Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats.

Good Morning. Today is the first workday of the week.....and also the RCC/Prot self-made "holy day"...no Scripture for this..... Section 16

Chapter 185.
Purity
1. WHAT did Christ say of the pure in heart? "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Matt. 5:8.
2. What did He declare to be a violation of the seventh commandment? "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever: looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Verses 27,28.
3. What exhortations did the apostle Paul give Timothy? "Flee also youthful lusts." 2 Tim. 2:22. "Keep thyself pure." 1 Tim. 5:22.
4. To whom are all things pure? "Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled." Titus 1:15.
5. When tempted to sin, what noble example did Joseph set? "How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" Gen. 39:9.
Page 735
6. Against what are the people of God warned? "But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks." Eph. 5:3,4.
7. What are mentioned as works of the flesh? "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviouness." Gal. 5:19.
8. What is said of those who do such things? "They which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Verse 21.
9. Against keeping company with whom are we warned? "But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator." 1 Cor. 5:11.
10. Why are evil associations to be avoided? "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners." 1 Cor. 15:33.
11. What inexorable law is laid down in the Scriptures? "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." Gal. 6:7,8.
"Keep virtue's simple path before your eyes, Nor think from evil good can ever rise."- Thomson.
12. Instead of sanctioning evil, what should we do? "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret." Eph. 5:11,12.
13. How should we guard our conversation? "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers." Eph. 4:29.
14. What scripture shows that social impurity was one of the chief sins which brought on the deluge? "And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. . . . And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. . . . And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth. . . . The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence" Gen. 6:1-11.
Page 736
15. What was the character of the inhabitants of Sodom? "But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly." Gen. 13:13. "And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me: therefore I took them away as I saw good," Eze, 16:50, See also verse 49.
NOTE.-Gen. 19:1-9 and 2 Peter 2:6 show that they were exceedingly corrupt in morals.
16. What did Christ say would be the condition of the world at His second advent? "As it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. . . . Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; . . . even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed." Luke 17:26-30.
17. What does the Lord call upon the wicked man to do? "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." Isa. 55:7.
18. What are the proper things to engage one's mind? "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Phil. 4:8.
NOTE.-The greatest foes to social purity are immoral associates, impure literature, improper dress, idleness, intemperance, and theatergoing, including questionable picture shows, all of which are confined almost exclusively to city life. For this reason parents should look well to their children's home life; their companions; the books, papers, and magazines they read; how their time is occupied; what they eat, drink, and wear; where they spend their nights; and the character of their amusements. "Pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness" were contributing causes to the gross immorality of Sodom, and its consequent downfall. Eze. 16:49,50.

Medieval Scholastic philosophers and theologians, such as Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Bonaventure, held that all the commandments are a part of the natural law and are therefore knowable to all thinking people.

"Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her, she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the Seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority" Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism 3rd ed. p. 174
Todays' Sabbath School lesson: sunday...March 19 Reward for Faithfulness Read Hebrews 11:6. What should this verse mean to us? How should we respond to what it says? Also read Revelation 22:12, Isaiah 40:10, and Isaiah 62:11. What do all these texts teach us? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ The reward from God to His faithful children is unique and, like many spiritual things, may be beyond our finite understanding. “Human language is inadequate to describe the reward of the righteous. It will be known only to those who behold it. No finite mind can com- prehend the glory of the Paradise of God.”—Ellen G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 674.
Jesus concluded the Beatitudes, which open the Sermon on the Mount, with these words: “ ‘Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you’ ” (Matt. 5:11, 12, NKJV). After listing the people of faith in Hebrews 11, Paul begins the next chapter explaining why Jesus was willing to die on the cross.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of wit- nesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Heb. 12:1, 2, NKJV).
Being rewarded for faithfulness, however, is not the same as salva- tion by works. Who among us, or among any of the characters in the Bible, had works good enough to give them any merit before God? None, of course. That’s the whole point of the cross. If we could have saved ourselves by works, Jesus never would have gone to the cross. Instead, it must be by grace. “And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work” (Rom. 11:6, NKJV). Rewards, instead, are the mere outworking of what God has done for us and in us.
How do we understand the difference between salvation by grace and a reward according to works? Bring your answer to class on Sabbath.

3. Upon what conditions was freedom from disease promised? "If thou wilt diligently harken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee." Ex. 15:26.
4. What does the psalmist say the Lord does for His people? "Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." Ps. 103:3.
5. What constituted a large part of Christ's ministry? "Who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil." Acts 10:38. See Luke 13:16. "And Jesus went about all Galilee, . . . healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people." Matt. 4:23.
6. Why should the health of the body be preserved? "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." 1 Cor. 6:20.
Page 740
7. What is the body of the believer said to be? "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" Verse 19.
8. What will God do to those who defile this temple? "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." 1 Cor. 3:17.
9. What example did Daniel set in this matter? "But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank." Dan. 1:8.
10. With what food did he ask to be provided? "Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink." Verse 12.
11. What was the original diet prescribed for man? "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." Gen. 1:29.
12. Why did the Lord restrict the Hebrews in their diet? "For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto Himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing." Deut. 14:2,3.
NOTE.-Both mind and body are affected by the food we eat.
13. What effect does cheerfulness have upon the health? "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine." Prov. 17:22.
14. How did the Saviour provide rest for His disciples? "And He said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest awhile." Mark 6:31.
15. How are we exhorted to present our bodies to God? "I beseech you. . . that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God." Rom. 12:1.
16. What high purpose should control our habits of life? "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Cor. 10:31.

" The Catholic Mirror, official organ of Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893.
"Is Saturday the 7th day according to the Bible and the 10 Commandments?"
"I answer yes".
Todays' Sabbath School lesson: Monday.....March 20 Everlasting Life As human beings (and whether we like it or not), an eternity awaits us. And according to the Bible, this eternity will come in one of two manifestations, at least for each of us individually: either eternal life or eternal death. That’s it. No middle ground. No straddling, a bit of one side or another. Instead, it is one (life) or the other (death). This truly is a case of all or nothing.
Read Romans 6:23 and John 3:16. What options are presented to us? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ It is hard to imagine two starker or more distinct choices, isn’t it? Chances are that if you are reading this, you have chosen eternal life, or certainly are thinking about it. God has the unique ability to do whatever He says He can do—to fulfill all His promises. Our part is simply to believe Him, rest upon the merits of Jesus, and by faith obey His Word.
Read John 14:1–3. What is the Lord’s counsel to us in verse 1, and what does He promise to us in verses 2 and 3? ________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ In the final days of His earthly ministry, Jesus spoke these amazing words of hope and courage to His disciples. These words would lift their spirits in times of discouragement and trial. They should do the same for us. Jesus came from heaven, went back to heaven, and has promised us, “I will come again and I will receive you unto Myself so you can be with Me there” (see John 14:3).
And, perhaps more than anything else, Christ’s death on the cross at His first coming is our greatest assurance of His second coming, for without the Second Coming, what good was His first one? As sure as we are that Jesus died for us on the cross is as sure as we can be that, yes, as He promised: “ ‘I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also’ ” (John 14:3, NKJV).
Dwell more on the idea that Christ’s first coming is the guarantee of His second. What happened at His first coming that makes His second a promise that we can trust? Many wonder today why the Republican party does nothing to defeat the treasonous schemes of the Democrats.
